ENGvsIND: Indian skipper Virat Kohli has supported English all-rounder Ben Stokes’s call to take a break from international cricket to support his mental wellbeing and said mental breaks will be the part of the sport in tiring bubbles.
A few days prior to the start of India vs England test series, all-rounder, Ben Stokes announced his indefinite break from cricket to take care of his mental wellbeing amid these challenging bio-bubbles.
Several cricketers and experts came in support of the cricketer for his decision and more importantly admitting it openly which sets an example that mental health is no joke and is as important as any other part of the body.
Virat Kohli during the recent pre-match conference said that the breaks to switch off from cricketing action is important for the cricketers.
“As a captain, subconsciously, your mind keeps working. It’s used to the daily planning, and there’s little switching off. So from that point of view, the break was necessary. Also, we have been operating in the bio-bubble for over a year, and it’s not easy at all,” said Virat Kohli.
He further added that being in a bio-bubble is a challenging task and over that handling a group of people is even more difficult.

“We saw Ben Stokes taking a break now. Such breaks are essential and needed. Such breaks are refreshing. Being a captain and handling a team is anyway a stressful job and now add the bubble to it, and it becomes furthermore challenging,” added Virat Kohli.
Kohli reckons that such breaks, which Ben Stokes recently took, will be taken by many other cricketers in the coming times prioritising their mental health and wellbeing.
“Such periodic breaks are essential for the well-being of the cricketers. To maintain the quality of the sport, the well-being of the top cricketers is important. Like him [Ben Stokes], many cricketers in the future will get tired of these bubbles and opt for breaks.”
The Indian team got a sufficient break before the start of the England vs India test series. The players were entitled to set themselves free during the 20 days break after the WTC Final. The group switched themselves off from cricket and enjoyed the time with their families.
The five-match Test series between India and England starts tomorrow at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
