Virat Kohli indeed has been one of the biggest topics of discussion amongst all the cricket experts, analytics and even the fans from all around the globe in the recent past. The fact that the star batsman is suffering from an unbelievable rough patch for the past couple of years is definitely hard to digest for millions of Indian fans and other cricket lovers outside of the sub-continent.
Virat’s not being able to convert any of his starts to three figures for several innings has drawn a certain amount of criticism. Most of the times Virat has been able to get off to a start in the recent matches, either the bowler has got better of him out of nowhere or he himself has thrown away his wicket with a rash, reckless shot against the run of play.
Such a dramatic turn of events is what makes several fans and even experts believe that it might be the end of the road for Virat Kohli – “The batsman”. However, in spite of having failed to make a mark in terms of scoring a century, Virat has still been able to prove his worth with several batting performances in the past few months. Here is a list of Virat Kohli’s top 3 innings for India since he scored his last century back in 2019:-
Virat Kohli’s 85(81) in India vs West Indies (3rd ODI, December 2019)
One of Virat’s fantastic innings came back in 2019, against the West Indies in the series decider at Cuttack. The West Indies set up a massive target of 316 runs while batting first. In response, India got off to a good start but found themselves in trouble after losing several wickets in the middle overs.
Virat Kohli held one end firmly and kept on scoring boundaries and steering the innings on a regular basis. He never let the required rate soar higher as he kept India in the game. He was eventually dismissed at the score of 85, but by that time he had already paved the way for India to register another famous win.
Virat Kohli’s 94*(50) in India vs West Indies (1st T20I, December 2019)
Another masterful inning from Virat Kohli once again came against the West Indies, this time in a T20I match though. The West Indies set up a huge target of 208 in the 20 overs for India. India in response to this seemed to struggle against the rising required run rate at one stage of the run chase.
The boundaries weren’t coming frequently and the bowlers had the upper hand. It was then that Virat Kohli miraculously started finding the fence effortlessly as he smacked bowlers to all parts of the ground. He brought up a quick fire 50 and ended up with a career-best score of 94* at a strike rate close to 190. India handsomely won the game by 6 wickets.
Virat Kohli’s 79(201) in India vs South Africa (3rd Test, January 2022)
A memorable performance from Virat Kohli was seen against South Africa when he single-handedly provided stability to the Indian innings which would have certainly collapsed otherwise.
The South African bowling unit seemed to be all over the Indian batters as none of the batsmen was seemingly finding their rhythm under the tough circumstances. Virat Kohli kept on playing confident strokes and held one end firmly as he saw his teammates getting dismissed at the other end.
He showed great discipline and resistance against the tough spells of the opposition bowlers before falling for a well-made 79 off 201 deliveries. India posted 223 in the first innings and went on to lose the test match a couple of days later. This loss also marked the end of Virat Kohli’s captaincy stint in test matches for India.
