Virat Kohli’s half-century will work as much needed confidence booster: Sunil Gavaskar: Legendary Indian cricketer and renowned commentator, Sunil Gavaskar reckons Virat Kohli’s half-century in the match against Gujarat Titans (GT) will help him gain confidence following a string of poor scores in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Virat Kohli played a fine knock of 58 runs from 53 deliveries and helped RCB post a total of 170 runs. Though Kohli’s innings came on a losing cause, his return in form will benefit the franchise moving ahead in the tournament.
“It’s a confidence-building inning. Definitely, as far as the RCB is concerned, they will be very, very happy,” Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports.
Gavaskar further told that it was the knock that everyone was eager for. Not only the fans but the franchise was also excited to see Virat Kohli perform.
“It was a knock that he needed, it was a knock that RCB wanted as well. Once you get going and get a fifty, it augurs well for the remaining matches as well. Your main man is hitting the ball cleanly, the feet are moving into position quite nicely,” he added.
Prior to his comeback half-century, Virat Kohli had registered 0, 0, and 9 runs respectively in his last three matches. The pressure was piling up on the cricketer following his poor scores in the Indian Premier League, however, a fine half-century has neutralised everything back to normal.
Notably, a few cricket experts had advised Kohli to take a break from the Indian Premier League (IPL). The likes of Ravi Shastri reckoned that the Indian batting maestro is overcooked and needs a break as he has been playing cricket consistently for several years.
Sunil Gavaskar heaps praise on Rajat Patidar:
Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar also heaped praises on Rajat Patidar who also registered a half-century against Gujarat Titans. Patidar stitched a beautiful partnership with Virat after the early dismissal of Faf du Plessis.
“To be perfectly honest, at the start of the match, he would be slotted in at No. 3 because he hasn’t had that much experience. On the other hand, Shahbaz has been in good form and he is a left-hander. But Rajat Patidar was outstanding, absolutely top-class. He justified the RCB team management’s tactics,” he added.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is currently placed fifth in the points table with five wins and as many losses in ten matches. They will face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 4 for their 11th match in the MCA Pune.
