The viral video in which Chennai Super Kings Skipper MS Dhoni was seen smoking Hookah at a private event has sparked discussions among his fans. The 42-year-old is well known for his great fitness and disciplined lifestyle, and the video of him taking a hookah at an event has surprised his fans all around the world.
Former Australian skipper George Bailey has revealed in a statement that MS Dhoni organized Hookah sessions with youngsters in order to break the barrier between senior players and young players. Bailey revealed this in 2018 when he was sharing his experience regarding the time he had spent in the IPL.
George Bailey has played under the captaincy of MS Dhoni in the IPL with CSK (2009–2012) and Rising Pune Supergiant (2016).
“He (MS Dhoni) likes to smoke a bit of Hookah or Sheesha. So he would set up the Hookah in his room on a regular basis, and it was pretty much an open-door policy. You would go into his room and, more often than not, find a lot of young players smoking Hookah with MSD. For India or a lot of other cricket teams, smoking Sheesha is hierarchical, but he (MS Dhoni) broke that down,” George Bailey said in an video shared by Cricket Australia.
“You just find yourself in his room late at night chatting about a match or about different people, and with different people, it’s a great way to break down barriers,” Bailey added.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the legendary captain, has led the Chennai Super Kings to the joint most IPL titles (5) in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023. The 42-year-old is once again all set to lead the Super Kings in the upcoming season of IPL 2024. According to some rumors, the IPL 2024 may be the season after which MS Dhoni may hang up his cricketing boots.
