Watch: “What’s your problem Rassie,” Buttler-Rassie van Dussen banter during SA vs ENG 2nd ODI

Watch: “What’s your problem Rassie,” Buttler-Rassie van Dussen banter during SA vs ENG 2nd ODI: England white-ball captain Jos Buttler was once again engaged in banter with the South African cricketer during South Africa vs England 2nd ODI in Bloemfontein, which was won by the home side. The verbal spat between Jos Buttler and Rassie van der Dussen was caught on the stump mic.

The incident happened during South Africa’s innings in the 19th over when Rassie van der Dussen couldn’t pick up Adil Rashid’s googly. The delivery went on to take the inside edge of the batter and hit the pads before getting tossed up in the air, which eventually was a chance of a dismissal. Jos Buttler, who was doing the wicketkeeper’s duties, saw the opportunity to catch the ball but was blocked by van der Dussen, who was standing at the crease.

Annoyed Buttler reacted angrily as he began the verbal spat with the South African batter. The entire conversation was caught on the stump mic and the umpire had to intervene and stop it.

“I’m trying to get to the ball,” Buttler said. “What’s your problem Rassie? It’s not all about you all the time.”

Rassie Van der Dussen then replied: “No, it’s about you.”

“I’m allowed to try and catch the ball,” replied Jos Buttler. “What do you want me to do?” he added.

Before the conversation between the player could escalate, one of the two on-field umpires intervened as one of them was heard shouting, “Okay, calm down!”

Van der Dussen scored run-a-ball 38 in the game which was eventually won by the Proteas owing to a fantastic century from skipper Temba Bavuma. South Africa chased down a total of 342 runs in 49.1 overs in the loss of five wickets.

With the win, South Africa also clinched the home three-match ODI series by defeating England in the opening two matches. In the previous game, the Proteas thumped England by 27 runs to take a 1-0 lead.

The third ODI of the three-match series will be held on 1st February at Diamond Oval, Kimberley.

Meanwhile, a similar incident took place a couple of years back when Jos Buttler was seen getting into a heated argument with a now-retired, South African pacer Vernon Philander during a test game between England and South Africa.

The incident happened during England vs South Africa’s second test in 2020 when Buttler called Philander, a “f***ing k***head.” The England keeper wasn’t happy with Vernon Philander coming in the way of the ball.
