The fans were greeted with the unique sight at the Narendra Modi Stadium as both Indian and England stars took to the field wearing green armbands on the 12th of February. Never-seen-before green bands have stirred doubt into the heads of fans, as the black bands worn before have often signified a mark of tribute.

India and England Players step in with Green Armbands

The special initiative marked a revolutionary move from new ICC Chairman Jay Shah and was backed by the Indian Cricket Board, BCCI. This green band signifies an awareness program on the importance of organ donation. 

Before the beginning of the match, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir decided to pledge his organs to the ‘Get a Life’ campaign, a unique resolve to spread awareness for the donation of organs. While the likes of players like Mohammed Shami, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill also voiced their support in favor of the video. 

As a result of this campaign, Gunjan Umang Dani and Deepti Vimal Shah, two of the organ recipients, accompanied the two skippers of the Indian and English teams during the toss. This raises the information about organizing the organ donation drive in the city of Ahmedabad.
