BCCI MEETING: The 2018 ODI World Cup schedule was discussed in a meeting on Sunday by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In addition, the T20 World Cup performance of Team India was evaluated. In this meeting, many significant decisions have been made. The majority of these choices have been made with the players’ health in mind. Yo-yo tests and DEXA tests are now required for athletes being chosen for the national squad.
In the Yo-Yo test, consideration was given to the players’ mental state during the corona. The test that was necessary for team selection was practically eliminated. The yo-yo test has, however, once more been made necessary. Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry, sometimes known as DEXA, has also been used. Let’s find out more about these two.
The significance of the Yo-Yo Test in Indian cricket
For the past few years, there has been debate about the Yo-Yo Test in Indian cricket. To be selected for Team India before Corona, one had to succeed in this test. At the time of Corona, everything was calm. The fitness of the Indian players has greatly improved as a result of the yo-yo test. Many Indian players, including Hardik Pandya and Prithvi Shaw, underwent their yo-yo test just before the 15th IPL season. Prithvi failed the test, whereas Hardik succeeded.
Many players have already failed the yo-yo test before this. These athletes include Varun Chakraborty, Mohammed Shami, Sanju Samson, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, and Yuvraj Singh. Yo-yo testing is now required even for participation in the IPL. To put it another way, BCCI’s central contract players will need to pass a yo-yo exam. He won’t be able to participate in the IPL if this doesn’t happen. Prithvi participated in the IPL 2022 because he was not under the central contract.
What is Yo-Yo Test?
- The beep test and the yo-yo test are comparable. Running between two sets is required for this running test.
- There are 20 meters separating the two sets. It is about the same size as a cricket pitch.
- The players must sprint from one set to the next and then from the second set to the first set throughout this.
- The fifth level is where the test begins. This goes on till level 23.
- The running time gets shorter but the distance stays the same after each shuttle.
- In the yo-yo test, Indian players must get a score of 16.5 out of 23. not even able to get to Earth 15.
What is the DEXA test?
A skinfold test was once used to evaluate a player’s level of fitness. After that, the DEXA test for this was initiated. Team India observed the skinfold test for a number of days, however, the test’s estimation of body fat percentage was inaccurate. After that, the Dexa test was initiated for a precise evaluation of body fat.
Dexa was later abandoned, though. Now there is another test. In reality, players have bone and joint discomfort frequently today. He has stayed away from cricket for a considerable amount of time owing to a bone injury, unlike Rohit Sharma, Jaspreet Bumrah, and Deepak Chahar. In light of this, the BCCI is currently conducting a thorough investigation.
The BCCI wants players to be found before a situation like this arises. The Dexa scan is the gold standard globally for assessing bone health and body composition. This examination, which assesses body fat, lasts for ten minutes. This allows for the detection of the body’s muscle, fat, and bone mass health. A bone mineral density (BMD) test is another name for it. Let’s find out what this test entails.
- This test evaluates the bone’s tensile strength.
- Through this examination, Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) equipment measures the density of the bones.
- In addition, the Dexa test can be used to identify the reason for bone weakening.
- This test provides data on the amount of calcium and other minerals in the bones.
