Will Overseas Players Return for IPL 2025? Franchises May Give Free Hand, Mitchell Starc Unlikely to Join Delhi Capitals Again

The IPL 2025 was almost cancelled, but the BCCI is still planning to restart it in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad from May 16, 2025. However, all the overseas players of the IPL have returned to their respective countries, and now, after a week, when this match is resumed, will all those foreign players return? This question increases the heartbeat of all people.

The franchise has allowed the players to decide for themselves, and whether they should return or not is only their wish.

On the other hand, Mitchell Starc of the Delhi Capitals is unlikely to join this IPL season again. So, in this article, we have shared all the information related to it, so let's start this article.

Will Overseas Players Return for IPL 2025?

The IPL 2025 stopped on May 9, 2025, when the match between Punjab and Delhi had to be cancelled midway in Dharamsala because a drone alert came, which was linked to Operation Sindoor.

The new schedule may be dropped on the night of May 12, and it is challenging to call back overseas players. Here, convincing the Australians is the most difficult task, and the possibility of a smooth restart is also a little less.

Overseas Players Given Free Choice to Return Amid Safety Concerns

The franchise can give overseas players a free hand in return for IPL 2025. After the Dharamsala incident, England's Liam Livingstone and Australia's Josh Hazlewood left the country due to safety concerns.

An IPL official said the team will not force anyone to return, mainly because the World Test Championship starts on June 11, and the team's plans can be affected.

Mitchell Starc's Return Unlikely, Major Blow for Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals will suffer a massive loss because Mitchell Starc will hardly return for this season. He was bought for ₹11.75 crore. Starc has gone, and the chances of his return are very low.

Starc's manager told the Australian media that he will not go back, and Australian cricket gives more priority to safety.

Starc, who scored five wickets against Sunrisers Hyderabad, is now prioritising safety and focusing on the upcoming Test match.

Delhi Capitals may replace unsold players like Mustafizur Rahman with him.

IPL 2025 Teams Like Delhi, RCB, Punjab Most Affected by Player Exit

The IPL 2025 overseas players' return issue affects teams like Delhi, RCB, and Punjab Kings, who have 16 points. Missing players like Mitchell Starc can weaken the lineup, but Indian players like Axar Patel will bloom.

All these players will have to fill the gap left by the players who have gone and deliver performances like theirs to match.
