Micheal Bracewell Ruled Out Of ODI World Cup

Micheal Bracewell Ruled Out Of ODI World Cup: New Zealand has experienced yet another setback ahead of the World Cup, as talented all-rounder Michael Bracewell has been ruled out of the ODI World Cup 2032 to be held in India later this year. He suffered an injury during the Vitality T20 Blast and will be out for 6 to 8 months with a ruptured Achilles.

In the month leading up to the ODI World Cup, Bracewell is New Zealand’s second major injury setback. The Kiwis are already anticipating the absence of their talismanic captain Kane Williamson, who suffered an injury while playing for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League.

According to a press statement from New Zealand Cricket, Micheal Bracewell is set to undergo surgery in the UK on Thursday before starting his prolonged recovery, making him ineligible for the 2023 World Cup, which is slated to be played in October-November in India.

NZC on Micheal Bracewell’s Injury

The 32-year-old Micheal Bracewell was shaping up to be a crucial part of the New Zealand team for the ODI World Cup in India, and coach Gary Stead acknowledged that they will miss his “exceptional skills.”

“Firstly, you always feel for the player when injury strikes and especially when it means they will have to miss a world event. Michael Bracewell’s a great team man and has had a fantastic 15 months for the BLACKCAPS since his international debut,” Stead said.

“We’ve seen his exceptional skills in all three facets of the game and he was shaping as an important player for us at the world cup in India.”

“Michael’s naturally pretty disappointed, but also pragmatic in acknowledging that injuries are a part of the sport and he’s now turning his focus to his rehabilitation,” he added.

Micheal Bracewell won’t be able to make it home for a few weeks after surgery. He has been abroad from New Zealand since April after getting called up to play in the IPL. During July 26–28 and August 9–11, the BLACKCAPS will host parallel winter training camps in Lincoln and Tauranga.
