WPL 2025: RCB script history after win against Gujarat Giants, becomes first team to achieve this feat in tournament
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) achieved a massive feat in the history of the Women's Premier League (WPL) after their win over Gujarat Giants in the first game. They became the first team ever to chase a total of over 200 across all three editions of tournament.
RCB Women started the WPL 2025 on a dominating note as they beat Gujarat Giants by six wickets in the tournament opener at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. Asked to bat Beth Mooney (56) took Gujarat Giants off to a great start despite not getting support from top order.
She slammed a solid half-century before Ashleigh Gardner (79*) stole the limelight with her brutal innings. Deandra Dottin (25) supported her well as the duo added 67 runs for fourth wicket. Based on the solid contributions, Gujarat Giants posted a total of 201 for five. For RCB Women, Renuka Singh picked two wickets.
RCB Women had a worst start to their innings as they lost both the openers Smriti Mandhana and Dani Wyatt early. However, it was Ellyse Perry (57) who kept her team in hunt with the solid half-century. Along with Raghvi Bist (25), she added 86 runs for third wicket.
Gujarat Giants then pulled the breaks as they removed both the set batters in quick succession. However, Richa Ghosh (64*) came up with the magical effort and did something that not many expected. She took attack to the bowlers and put them under pressure.
Richa Ghosh along with along with Kanika Ahuja (30) came up with the superlative effort. The duo added unbeaten 93 runs as RCB chased the target with six wickets and start the WPL 2025 on high.
