WPL Points Table 2024 Updated (25 Feb)

(25 FEB) WPL Points Table 2024: Two games, two last-ball finishes. What more is there to ask of the WPL? Smriti Mandhana’s Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Alyssa Healy’s UP Warriorz in the last-ball thriller by 2 runs. We have brought to you the latest updated WPL Points Table 2024 after RCB vs UPW.

The second match of the season was played between RCB and UPW at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. Unlike the inaugural edition of WPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore have got a positive start to the 2024 season. Where Delhi Capitals failed to defend a target over 171, RCB defended 157 and that displays how good as a team they are!

RCB vs UPW Match Review

UP Warriorz won the toss and opted to chase the target. UP got an ideal start and knocked out two big wickets of Devine and Smriti in the powerplay. Ellyse Perry also went back for cheap but Sabbhineni Meghana and Richa Ghosh stood tall in the middle. They both weaved a partnership of 75 runs off 52 balls and Meghana got out after her 50. Richa continued her assault from the other end and smacked 62 off 37 runs.

Riding these two half-centuries in excellent times, RCB reached a respectable total of 157 runs but considering that last game where the chasing team chased down 170+ target, 158 looked like an easy deal.

Asha celebrates Tahlia’s wicket (BCCI)

UP Warriorz lost their skipper early in the chase. Renuka Thakur was as good as she has been. After Vrinda Dinesh was dismissed for 18 and Tahlia McGrath out for 22, Grace Harris and Shweta Sehrawat stitched a 77-run partnership for the fourth wicket. UPW were 126 for 3 down and needed just 31 more runs off 24 balls and they were looking the straight winners of the game. But in came Asha for her last over and the three wickets in that over completely changed the game.

Poonam Khemnar smashed successive boundaries and got help from Deepti Sharma but all came down to 11 runs off 10 balls and Khemnar got out. Exactly 5 runs were needed off the last ball but Molineux was too accurate with her length. RCB won the game by 2 runs and Sobhana Asha took fifer and was awarded as Player of the Match.
