Youngest debutants in the history of the IPL ft. Vaibhav Suryavanshi

The left-handed batter from Bihar made the headlines, when Vaibhav Suryavanshi was picked in the IPL auction of 2025 by the Rajasthan Royasl. The 13-year old batter then was picked for INR 1.10 Crores which made him the youngest ever player to be bought in the history of the IPL

This time in the Rajasthan Royals vs Lucknow Super Giants match at the home ground of the Royals on the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Vaibhav Suryavanshi replaced his injured skipper in the Playing 11 and was brought in as an impact player. Suryavanshi dated 19th April aged just 14 years and 23 days made his debut as the youngest ever player in the history of IPL.

Here is a list of the youngest IPL debutants:

Vaibhav Suryavanshi - A Star is Born at Jaipur

1. Vaibhav Suryavanshi (14 years and 23 days) - vs LSG in IPL 2025

Suryavanshi has been a special player for India U-19 in recent times as well, as he made the headlines with his 58-ball century against Australia U-19, while the batter also has an unbeaten triple hundred to his name in the domestic U-19 tournament in Bihar.

Suryavanshi’s debut will be one worth remembering, as the youngest ever arrived in some fashion hitting a huge six of Shardul Thakur in his very first ball of the Indian Premier League. His valiant innings of 34 from just 19 balls came to and end with some extraordinary glove work from Rishabh Pant.

2. Prayas Ray Barman (16 years and 157 days) - vs SRH in IPL 2019

Picked up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 1.5 Crores back in IPL 2019, the player was coined the highest wicket-taker of the season in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The Bengal bowler played against SRH and conceded 56 runs in his 4 overs without a wicket, marking the only IPL game of his career. Surprisingly, since 2022 the player has been seen only in 3 domestic games in the last 3 years.

3. Mujeeb Ur Rahman (17 years and 11 days) vs Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2019

The only overseas player on our list, Mujeeb made his debut playing for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in IPL 2019. Hailing from Afghanistan the spinner then gained large reputation as a mystery spinner with a unique arm action. Making his debut against Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) he finished his spell 2/28 and this marked his arrival into the international platform. Mujeeb is currently part of the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025.

4. Riyan Parag (17 years and 152 days) vs Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2019

First time in Indian domestic games, a cricketer from Assam could attain such heights to make an early debut in his career and star in one of the world’s premier T20 leagues. Parag made his debut against CSK back in IPL 2019 and has never been dropped since then. Parag came into the limelight with the last ball six against Santner and MS Dhoni’s first on-field outburst and altercation with the field umpires. Parag went on to be a special player for the Royals, also making it to the Indian side in 2024. He is currently starring for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024 and has occasionally stepped in as their skipper as well.

5. Pradeep Sangwan (17 years and 179 days) vs CSK in IPL 2008

Pradeep Sangwan was part of the U-19 team that won the World Cup for India and was hence considered a superb grab for the inaugural season. Having played for Delhi Daredevils, he made his debut in 2008 in a game against Chennai Super Kings, giving away 40 runs without a wicket in his debut game. Sangwan played his longest season in IPL 2009 and was currently seen in the IPL back in 2022 for the Gujarat Titans. Since 2024, he has not been seen in any level of the game.
