Khan said that Rohit’s style of spearheading a team makes him a standout captain.

Under Rohit Sharma’s watchful eyes Mumbai Indians (MI) traced the IPL glory record five times, which is the most in the history of the tournament.

Zaheer Khan further said that Rohit dedicates time to its players and is always accessible for any issue. He stressed on the fact that his way of giving personal time to each and every individual makes him a role model.

“Rohit is a player’s captain. He’s been phenomenal for Mumbai Indians over the years as a player and a leader. The fact that he dedicates personal time to each individual and is very approachable, makes him a role model and a standout leader,” said Zaheer Khan.

Mumbai Indians have always encouraged the youngsters to perform and has groomed them to play at the highest levels. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya are two of the biggest testament to that fact.

“We have always been a team which promotes and gives freedom to youngsters. With Rohit’s experience and attitude, I believe we will have a lot of individuals who would be groomed as leaders in their own respective ways,” he added.

Mumbai Indians retained Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard for the Tata IPL 2022. The franchise also managed to get a couple of exciting players on board for the tournament during the mega auction.

With a new squad in place, Zaheer Khan said that he is quite happy with the new Mumbai Indians contingent. The franchise managed to get a proper balance of youngsters and experience on the side.

“We are very happy with the team. As always, we have created a strong and competitive squad. A big auction also gives you the chance to plan ahead and work on balancing short and long-term goals as a team. We have managed to retain the core of the squad. And with the exciting buys, created a fine mix between experience and youth.”

The five times champions had a bit of a bitter IPL season last time in the UAE. The Rohit Sharma-led side couldn’t cross the league stage and were eliminated from the tournament. However, this time around the franchise would be hoping to pull off a good IPL season.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has scheduled the Tata IPL 2022 across four different venues in Mumbai and Pune.

“Yes, Mumbai has been our home but it’s not that we’re playing all our matches at Wankhede. If you see, all teams are playing relatively the same amount of matches at all venues. So, I don’t think there would be any advantage or disadvantage for any team,” Zaheer said, “I believe all teams start with a clean slate.”
