The 18th season of IPL is currently underway. At the beginning of this IPL season, the performance of five-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI) was not special. Seeing the consistent performance of Mumbai Indians, their former spinner Piyush Chawla has given a big reaction. According to Piyush Chawla, Mumbai Indians have many match-winners in their team and that makes them very dangerous
Mumbai Indians have played 10 matches so far this season, out of which they have won 6 matches and lost 4 matches. Initially, Mumbai Indians had to lose many matches but now they have won 5 matches in a row. With this, the team has 12 points. Mumbai is currently at the third position in the points table.
During a conversation on Jio Hotstar, Piyush Chawla said, "If you observe, the Mumbai Indians boast numerous players capable of changing the game. From positions 1 through 11, each member of the team can be a match-winner.
Ryan Rickelton delivered an impressive performance today. We’re all aware of Rohit Sharma’s contributions in the previous two matches. Jasprit Bumrah was exceptional with his bowling, and today Will Jacks secured two crucial wickets. Mumbai is in good form. Whatever strategies Hardik Pandya is employing are certainly benefiting the team. There are several match-winners within this playing XI. When MI perform at this level, they pose a significant threat to every opponent."
What transpired throughout the previous IPL seasons when the Mumbai Indians (MI) went on a winning-streak?
The Mumbai Indians (MI) have achieved a winning-streak of five or more games on six occasions in Tata IPL's history. Throughout these six instances of their winning-runs, they have gone on to lift the title on four occassions.
While they did miss out on lifting the IPL trophy despite winning five matches on the trot in 2008 & 2010 seasons of the cash rich t20 league, they ended up lifting the trophy in four other seasons.
In 2010, they finished as runners-up, while in 2008, a string of six matches resulted in MI ending up fifth in the league stage. The team first reigned supreme in 2013 when they achieved a five-match winning streak.
Similarly, during the 2015 season, a five-match streak allowed them to lift the trophy for the second time. In 2017, MI recorded a six-match winning streak to capture their third title, followed by a five-match streak that saw them lift the cup again in 2020.
