IND vs AUS Day 5: The last day of the Gabba test and we are heading to a possible draw for this test. The regular stoppage in the game due to rain has eaten up a big chunk of play time resulting in the two innings left in the last day of the test.
India avoided the follow on the last evening, and this gives them a chance to draw the match or even win it if they outplay Australia on Day 5. Jasprit Bumrah and Akashdeep did the brilliant job with the bat and now they have to perform with the ball.
India’s last-wicket pair showed remarkable resilience, adding 47 crucial runs that not only frustrated the Australians but also kept the visitors alive in the contest. Their partnership has made defeat less certain for India and left Australia pondering their next move. With at least 92 overs left in the match, the Aussies face a tricky balancing act if they want to pull off a dramatic victory.
The most likely strategy would be to bat aggressively in the current session, set a challenging target, and then give India two sessions to survive. But Australia will also need to factor in the weather and their stretched bowling resources.
With no Josh Hazlewood available for the second innings and Mitchell Marsh barely bowling, the burden has largely fallen on Starc, Cummins, and Lyon. Overworking their three-man attack could backfire, adding another layer of intrigue to an already fascinating Test match.
The Australian Innings have been started and they are showing intent right from the second over. Jasprit Bumrah, however, just took one ball to get rid of Usman Khawaja. He also sent Labuschagne back for cheap and Akash Deep got McSweeney. This is really going to be an intresting one.
IND vs AUS DAY 5 Weather Forecast
The weather gods have been anything but kind to this Test match. Day 1 was a total washout, with just a few deliveries bowled before the rain took over. Day 2 offered a glimmer of hope with fewer interruptions, but Day 3 brought more frustration, limiting play to just 33 overs. Day 4 followed the same gloomy script, leaving players and fans exasperated.
Unfortunately, the forecast for Day 5 doesn’t look any brighter. Thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected throughout the day, with little hope for uninterrupted action. Temperatures are predicted to hover around 26°C, but it’s the 90-100% chance of rain, 90% humidity, and strong 16 km/h southeast winds that might seal the Test’s fate.
With the weather overshadowing the cricket, fans are left to wonder if this match will ever get the chance to reach a fair conclusion.
The Gabba Pitch Report
The pitch has held up well compared to the last time these teams played here and looks excellent for batting, with good pace and bounce on offer. At the same time, bowlers like Bumrah, Siraj, and Akash have managed to extract plenty from it, making it a balanced surface. With limited play so far due to weather interruptions, both teams are likely to adopt an aggressive approach, setting up an exciting finish to the match.
