IPL 2022: 3 Indian cities that might get an IPL franchise in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

IPL 2022: The forthcoming fifteenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will see a change in the conduct of the tournament. The BCCI has planned to add two new IPL franchises in the next season and make IPL a ten teams affair. The Auction and tender for the two new IPL teams will be completed by May 2021.

However, this is not the first time that the IPL will be played with 10 teams. Back in 2011, Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Pune Warriors India were added to make the cash-rich league a 10-teams affair. Later Kochi Tuskers was banned by the BCCI and the IPL was played with 9 teams for the next two seasons. Subsequently, Pune Warriors was also removed from the league.

A mega auction will be conducted in the IPL 2022 for the reshuffling of the players and the new franchises will get a good opportunity to acquire key players from the auction table and make a strong squad.

In this article, we will discuss the 3 Indian cities that might get an IPL franchise in the IPL 2022.

3 Indian cities that might get an IPL franchise in the IPL 2022:

Ahmedabad:

Ahmedabad is the first city that is almost certain to get the IPL franchise in the coming season. According to the sources close to BCCI, due to the revamped Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad?s chances have increased drastically.

The newly built Narendra Modi Stadium has the capacity to host 132,000 spectators at once. Moreover, the stadium recently conducted multiple games of the India-England series as well as a couple of IPL games.

Lucknow:

Lucknow is another venue that comes to mind. The city has its own international stadium known as the Ekana Cricket Stadium which is also known as Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. The ground has a seating capacity of 50,000 spectators.

Ekana Cricket Stadium was earlier approved by the BCCI as the third home ground of the Afghanistan Cricket team. The ground recently successfully hosted women?s India vs South Africa international fixtures.

There are chances that Lucknow city might get an IPL franchise for the first time in IPL 2022.

Pune:

Pune is the most prominent city in the country to get the IPL franchise in the next season?s IPL. Earlier, two franchises, Pune Warriors India and Rising Pune Supergiants represented Pune city in the cash-rich league. The Pune Warriors India was included in the IPL from 2011 to 2013 when IPL was the competition of 10 teams while Rising Pune Supergiants came after the ban of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for two years.

If Pune gets an IPL franchise, then the Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium will be their home ground. The ground recently hosted the India-England ODI games.
