Everyone is waiting for the announcement of the Indian squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The last date to announce the provisional squad is January 12, and we might see some surprise calls for the Indian team.
There is an uncertainty about the fitness of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, and the form of some key players is also in question. That might make the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee bring in some new faces to the squad. India played the last ODI in August 2024, which was six months back. Then, we will have an ODI series coming up against England.
However, there are chances that, on the basis of performances in Tests and T20Is, some players might get an ODI cap. Hence, we might see some playing their first ODI in the coming event itself. Below, we will talk about three such Indian stars who can make their ODI debut in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Three Indian Stars who can to make their ODI debut in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025
3. Varun Chakravarthy
After not getting a chance for almost three years, Varun Chakravarthy made his comeback in the Indian team in the T20Is. He did pretty well and took 17 wickets in seven matches since his return. He brings his mystery spin to the table, which can be vital on the pitches in Dubai. Some media reports indicate that he can be part of the Indian squad because there is not clarity over Kuldeep Yadav's fitness. Notably, Varun has not played ODIs for India, and if selected, he can make his ODI debut in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
2. Nitish Kumar Reddy
The last six months have been career-changing for the 22-year-old all-rounder. Nitish Kumar Reddy made his T20I and Test debuts for India and impressed everyone in both formats. His all-round skills can be vital for India if he plays alongside Hardik Pandya. That opens many options for the team. He is likely to be in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad, and there are huge chances that he will be playing his first ODI for India during the mega event.
1. Yashasvi Jaiswal
The Indian management is keen to bring Yashavi Jaiswal to the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He has been a prolific scorer for Idnai in 2024. But he has yet to make his debut for ODI because of the packed top order. Jasiwal has already shown that he has the game to achieve success at this level. Already, there have been talks about his inclusion as a backup opener. Hence, we might see him soon donning an Indian ODI jersey.
