The Australian T20I skipper, Aaron Finch, has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. Following his retirement from the ODI and Test formats earlier this year, this announcement confirms his retirement from all formats. Aaron Finch has been a true asset to Australian cricket and to cricket in general. He has been one of the greatest servant of the game. He played 254 international games. It consisted of 103 T20Is, 5 test matches, and 146 ODIs. Here's an in-depth look at his career:

There are a few records of Aaron Finch that are difficult to emulate. He is the most capped Australian player in T20Is, having played 103 T20Is in his career. He is also the one to have been the skipper in 76 T20Is, the most by any captain. Finch was at the peak of his career when he slammed a career-best 172 runs against Zimbabwe in a T20I game.?

This speaks a lot about the potential that this legend had. His innings in the ODI World Cup semi-final in 2015 against India will be remembered by every Indian fan. Some of his other significant contributions include winning the T20I World Cup in 2022 and winning the 2015 ODI World Cup.

"I always wanted to get through the Big Bash and re-assess after that, and I found my body was sore after a BBL game and took a couple of days to recover?, is what he said when enquired about the sudden decision. He claimed that the decision was in process but it was delayed as Australian coach and friend Andrew McDonald suggested to not make any hasty decisions.  

?He (McDonald) said to give yourself time to make a decision that's not an emotional call, but one that's right for you and your family. I feel as though that's what I've done. I thought long and hard about it, but a big break between games gives everyone involved time to plan and prepare for the next T20 World Cup in 2024 (in the West Indies and the USA) because I can't see myself getting there at all. It would be doing the position and the team a disservice to play on for purely selfish reasons.?, he further added.  

Justifying his decision, he also clarified that the incoming captain requires time to settle and form his team. The same will be for the incoming opening batter. "Whoever takes over the leadership of that team, and as a new opening batter, you've got to give them enough time and space to work into those roles and give them a great opportunity to make the team their own over the next 18 months. I've been bloody fortunate to play for 12 years, and I think the teams are in a really good spot now for me to move on.", he said.
