He surpassed KL Rahul, who previously held the feat of playing an unbeaten inning of 132 runs versus the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2020, the highest score by an Indian in the IPL back then.
Chasing a daunting total of 246 runs, Sharma and his partner in crime Travis Head wrecked havoc as they stitched an unbelievable partnership of 171 runs for the opening wicket and this partnership played a crucial role in helping Hyderabad seal the win. They were nothing short of brilliant, as they smacked 83 runs in the first six overs.
Moreover, the 24-year-old Abhishek Sharma was given a lifeline in the powerplay when adjudged catch out by the umpire off the bowling of Yash Thakur but the delivery turned out to be a no-ball. This lifeline given to the young explosive batter completely gave the home side the necessary momentum as Sharma went berserk, smashing boundaries for fun. His inning consisted of 14 amazing fours and ten huge maximums.
Courtesy of his 141 runs knock, the 24-year-old now holds the record of scoring the most number of runs by an Indian in a single inning in the history of the IPL. Moreover, this was also the third-highest score by a batter in the history of the cash-rich T20 league.
Legendary batter Chris Gayle still tops the batting charts with his historical knock of 175 runs verus the now-defunct Pune Warriors India (PWI) and the legendary Kiwi wicketkeeper batter Brendon McCullum is placed second in the list with his record knock og 158 runs versus RCB in the very first match of the IPL.
Abhishek, meantime, has become the player to have smacked the quickest hundred versus the Punjab-based team and the second-quickest ton by a Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) player in history.
