Afghanistan Tour of?Sri?Lanka?2024: The Afghanistan National Cricket Team is set to travel to Sri Lanka for an all-format series against the hosts in February 2024. The tour consists of one test match, three one-day internationals, and three T20 internationals. This will be the first time that the two Asian teams will compete against each other in the longest format of the game. The test match is not part of the WTC 2023?2025 cycle.
The three T20 international series will be really important for the two sides as they will get an idea of their best players whom they can select for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka are coming on the back of comprehensive series wins against Zimbabwe, as the island nation?s team easily won the three-match One Day International series by a margin of 2-0 and the three-match T20i series 2-1 as well. Under the captaincy of new T20i skipper Wanindu Hasaranga, the Sri Lankans would be hoping to continue their good form against Afghanistan by winning the t20i series against the visitors.
Talking about the visitors, they recently participated in the recently concluded three-match T20i series against India, but things didn?t go in their favor as the hosts whitewashed the visitors 3-0 in the series. The Afghans would be looking to get back to winning ways in the multi-format series against Sri Lanka and gain some much-needed momentum before the 2024 T20 World Cup. The visitors will also be without the services of regular T20i skipper Rashid Khan, who has not recovered completely from the back surgery he underwent last year.
The Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo will play host to the single-test match between both teams, while the three-match ODI series will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. All three T20 international matches are going to take place at Dambulla's Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.
