Akash Chopra Points Out RCB's Biggest Weakness

The Countdown for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has begun as the tournament is set to start on March 22, 2024, and the first match will be played between defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Akash Chopra, a well-known commentator highlights some major weaknesses of RCB in the IPL 2024.

Former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra raises concern over the lack of quality spin bowling options of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2024. RCB released Sri Lankan star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga in the IPL 2024 Auction as he didn’t perform well in the last season and was also injured for almost half of the tournament.

Once Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had quality spinners in their squad like Yuzvendra Chahal, who plays a crucial role in wicket-taking in the middle overs for RCB but he was released by the franchise in the IPL mega auction 2024. Since then RCB didn’t have quality spinners in their squad who can perform consistently for the team.

RCB added Indian spinner Mayank Dagar for 1.80 crores in the IPL 2024 Auction, Mayank was previously part of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) but he didn’t perform well which is why SRH’s team management has released them. Karn Sharma is also a good option for RCB but he wasn’t consistent with his bowling performances in the last couple of seasons.

RCB’s Robust Top 5 Batters for the IPL 2024- Akash Chopra:

Akash Chopra praises the fantastic duo of Virat Kohli and the skipper Faf du Plessis, who played exceptional cricket in the IPL 2023. Both the players open for RCB and they are known for their robust start and big partnerships, but by the way, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis were in the Top 5 run-scorers in the IPL 2023.

Glenn Maxwell didn’t perform well in the last season but he has always been a crucial part of RCB and Maxwell is known for his aggressive batting style and we can expect a good season from him. The Addition of Cameron Green strengthened the middle-order batting of RCB which they had missed a lot in the last season as the team was very much dependent on Virat and Faf.

Akash Chopra said, “If we look at the batting department of RCB, then you will have Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis at the start then comes new addition Cameron Green followed by Glenn Maxwell or Rajat Patidar. These are the top 5 gun batters of RCB this season and if you think Rajat didn’t have good form, it doesn’t matter at all, whoever reaches M. Chinnaswamy regains their form.”

RCB Squad IPL 2024:

Faf du Plessis (Captain), Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Rajat Patidar, Anuj Rawat, Dinesh Karthik, Suyash Prabhudessai, Will Jacks, Mahipal Lomror, Karn Sharma, Manoj Bhandage, Mayank Dagar, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, Reece Topley, Himanshu Sharma, Lockie Ferguson, Rajan Kumar, Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Tom Curran, Swapnil Singh, Saurav Chauhan.
