The BCCI went on to draft in senior off-spinner R Ashwin, at the very last moment, after all-rounder Axar Patel suffered injury blows. Notably, Axar Patel was in India's initial 15-member provisional World Cup 2023 squad, however, an injury to him during the Asia Cup 2023 spoiled all his World Cup aspirations.
Cricket Australia (CA) also made a last-minute change in its squad with the comeback of Marnus Labuschagne in place of Ashton Agar, who has sustained a calf injury. Australia has opted to keep injured Travis Head into the squad through the World Cup 2023, with hopes of him getting fit for the later stages of the tournament.
Head has suffered a hand fracture during Australia's recent tour to South Africa. Given that he didn't require any surgical method, there is a certain confidence among the team that he could be fit for the second half of the ICC World Cup 2023 in India.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is set to begin on October 5 with a game between England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The warm-up games of the showpiece event are scheduled to commence today ie., September 29. Three practice games will be held today - Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, South Africa vs Afghanistan and New Zealand vs Pakistan on September 29.
Ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023, let's have a look at All Squads for ICC World Cup 2023 - Updated Player List for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
