Ashes 2023: James Anderson opens up about his retirement plans following criticism

England pacer James Anderson has received a lot of criticism for his poor form in the ongoing Ashes 2023. The veteran pacer hasn?t been able to find his rhythm and has looked clueless in this series, which has been one of the main reasons behind his side struggling to pick wickets at ease. 

James Anderson has bowled poor lines and lengths throughout the series and hasn?t done justice to his place. He was expected to play a big role coming into the series but it?s fair to say that he has been the biggest disappointment for his team in the ongoing series. 

James Anderson picked three wickets in the first two games and then was rested for the second game. He made a return to the team in rain washed-out 4th game, replacing Ollie Robinson. But couldn?t make an impact there as well as he bagged just one wicket. 

In the ongoing game at the Oval, James Anderson bowled good lines and lengths but he was unlucky as he didn?t get the number of wickets he would?ve wanted. The veteran pacer took just one wicket in the first innings and also struggled at some phases.

Following his poor form there have been many calls related to his retirement as many fans and pundits want him to call time on his career and give opportunities to youngsters now. James Anderson, who is 40 years old, is the leading fast bowler in Test cricketer with most scalps to his name.

With all the talks about his retirement, James Anderson said that he has no plans to retire any time soon. He said that he has another chance to prove himself and he can offer a lot to the team. He explained: 

?You've not got the wickets we would have liked,' then I'd be absolutely fine with that. In terms of retirement, I've got no interest in going any time soon. I've still got another inning to try to do something for the team. I don't feel like I'm bowling badly or losing pace or that I'm on the way out. I still feel I can offer a lot to this team."

It remains to be seen how James Anderson will fare in the second innings at the Oval. It?ll be a last chance to prove himself as England will not be playing any more Test cricket this year.
