Asia Cup 2022: Twitterati fumes as Rohit Sharma rests himself for INDvsAFG clash: Team India and Afghanistan are currently playing out their final assignment in the ongoing fifteenth edition of the Aisa Cup in Dubai International Stadium. The match between the two holds no importance as both sides have been eliminated from the tournament following their poor performance in the Super 4.
As India goes head-to-head against Afghanistan, they will aim to finish on a high. However, there was a surprise element as the toss happened between the two teams. Instead of regular skipper Rohit Sharma walking out for the flip of the coin, it was his deputy KL Rahul who joined Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi.
To add more, seasoned players such as Yuzvendra Chahal and Hardik Pandya were also benched for the match.
When asked the rationale behind the move, KL Rahul said that Rohit Sharma wanted a rest. While the other two changes were made keeping in mind the workload management of the players.
?Rohit wants to take a break, playing back-to-back is not easy in these conditions,? said team India vice-captain KL Rahul during the toss. ?Yuzi (Chahal), Rohit and Hardik miss out. Chahar, Karthik and Axar come in.?
However, things haven?t gone well with the fans and they are certainly not pleased with Rohit Sharma taking frequent breaks.
Here are a few reactions of the fans on Twitter who have shared their views on Rohit?s decision to take a rest for the match.
Notably, India got hammered by Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4s which put India?s campaign in a fix. Following the two consecutive defeats, India?s only hope to continue in the tournament was Afghanistan.
However, Afghanistan got a painful defeat at the hand of Pakistan to end their campaign as well as India?s.
