Australia vs Pakistan: David Warner, Marsh add a record-breaking partnership in World Cup 2023 against Pakistan in Bengaluru: Australian opener batters Mitchell Marsh and David Warner made a mockery of the Pakistani bowlers as they mustered a record-breaking opening partnership at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in the ongoing contest between Australia and Pakistan. Both the batters stitched an opening stand of 259 runs, which also happens to be Australia's highest opening partnership in the ODI World Cup history.
In the process, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh completed their individual centuries. While Warner played a marvelous 163-run knock, Marsh departed after scoring 121 runs against Pakistan in Bengaluru.
The opening duo of Australia surpassed the long-standing 2011 World Cup record owned by Brad Haddin and Shane Watson, who scored 183 against Canada in the very same venue on March 16, 2011.
Warner and Marsh completely owned the game till the time they were in the middle and placed Australia on a rampaging platform for a massive total at the Chinnaswamy.
At the time of the first breakthrough, of Mitchell Marsh, Australia were at 259 runs in 33.5 overs. However, the team lost another wicket, Glenn Maxwell, in the very next ball, golden duck.
It has also been learned that David Warner and Mitch Marsh's partnership of 259 runs is also the second-highest opening partnership by any team in the history of the Cricket World Cups. The Aussie duo is only second to Sri Lanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga, who scored 282 runs collectively against Zimbabwe back in 2011.
It's important to note that Pakistan had the early opportunity to avoid this dangerous partnership as a chance was created by Shaheen Shah Afridi in the third delivery of the fourth over of the innings. Warner could only get a top-edge to a short delivery by Afridi which flew away to mid-on, where Usama Mir was stationed, but the fielder put the dolly down.
Post that easy chance put down by Mir, Pakistan could not trouble the Australian pair, who tormented the entire bowling unit with their stroke play.
