The 2nd match of the three-match One-Day International series between the women's teams of Australia and England is set to played on the 14th of January i.e tomorrow at the Junction Oval Cricket Stadium of Melbourne. The hosts secured a comfortable victory in the opening contest by a margin of four wickets and they will be looking to carry forward their winning momentum in the forthcoming contest too.
England on the other hand, didn't have a good match and lost the encounter by a margin of four wickets. The Heather Knight-led team lost the toss and were asked to bat first by Alyssa Healy and the visitors didn't really perform with the bat, managing to score just 204 runs on the board.
Skipper Heather Knight's knock of 39 runs and valuable contributions from the duo of Amy Jones (31 runs) and Danny Wyatt-Hodge (38 runs) were the best batting scores of the tourists in the opening encounter.
In terms of bowling, the Mighty Aussies were absolutely perfect as they inflicted an all-out on England for a score of 204 runs. The trio of Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland and Kim Garth took two wickets each while Darcie Brown dismissed a single batter. Off-spinner Ashleigh Gardner was the best Aussie bowler as she ended the game figures of 3-19 in 6.1 overs.
The target of 205 runs looked like a walk in the park for the Australians but the English women had some other plans and they created a lot of difficulties for the home team, managing to dismiss six of their batters. But in the end, skipper Healy's brilliant 70 runs knock and Ashleigh Gardner's contribution of 42 runs proved to be more than enough to help the Aussies seal the victory.
Talking about the bowling performance of the visitors, the duo of Sophie Ecclestone and Lauren Filer picked up two scalps a piece while Charlie Dean & Lauren Bell ended the game with one wicket next to their name.
