A really exciting and interesting Test-Series is taking place currently between fierce-rivals India and Australia. So far two contests have been played in the series and both team have managed to win one match each. The current Gabba Test-Match is facing constant interruptions due to rain. 
But, the Mighty Australians have performed in a much better way in this contest. Especially the duo of Steve Smith and Travis Head have troubled the Indian Team by scoring centuries. With this, a big record of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar is in danger of getting broken. One of Steven Smith or Virat Kohli can go on to break that record. 
<h2>History of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series</h2>
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series which takes place between the Indian Cricket Team and the Australian Cricket Team started in the year 1996. The Little Master of India Sachin Tendulkar took part in this Test-Series between 1996-2013. During this period, he managed to score nine hundreds in 34 encounters, which is the highest number of hundreds scored by any batter in this particular series. 
But now, this record is in danger of getting broken. Australia's Steven Smith and India's Virat Kohli have also scored the same number of tons as Sachin and both of these players have an excellent chance of scripting history.

Talking about the legendary Virat Kohli first, he played his first BGT series in 2011 and since then he has gone on to score nine centuries in 27 contests. Steve Smith of Australia on the other hand also has nine hundreds next to his name but he has done it in fewer games i.e. 21 matches. Whoever scores a century first will break the record of Sachin Tendulkar. 
<h2>Two matches are still left to be played in the current series</h2>
Currently, just the third encounter of the 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy is going on. Two matches are still left to be played. That means if everything goes according to the plan, then the duo of Kohli and Smith will have four innings to play in.
Both of them have a great chance of breaking the record of Tendulkar but it remains to be seen who succeeds in getting to the 10 hundreds landmark first. At present, everyone has their eyes set on the Gabba Test-Match as the 5th and the final day of that contest is still pending. However, due to constant rain interruptions, it's looking likely that this fixture is going to end as a draw.

Australian skipper Pat Cummins has emerged as a big problem for Rishabh Pant on the Cricket field. Notably, the fast bowler has managed to get the better of the Indian wicketkeeper batter on multiple occasions in the current series. Before this, he never succeeded to get the wicket of Pant. 
Talking about their H2H stats before the 2024 BGT series, Pant and Cummins had faced each other on 11 occasions. In these 11 occasions, Rishabh scored 91 runs versus the Aussie pacer and the 31-year-old had not found success in getting Pant out even once. 
But now, things have changed in a drastic manner. In the last five Test innings in which Pant and Cummins have faced each other, the latter had managed to score just 22 runs in 41 deliveries and he has also been dismissed by Cummins on three occasions in the current series. This means that the 27-year-old is becoming is becoming a constant victim of the Aussie skipper. 
<h2>Rishabh Pant's bat has not fired even once in the current BGT series</h2>
In the currently ongoing 2024 Border Gavaskar Trophy series, Rishabh Pant has failed to perform well and his bat has not shown the same kind of fear for which he is well known across the world. 
In the opening Test-Match in Perth, the 27-year-old managed to score 37 runs with the bat in the 1st inning and only a single run in the 2nd inning. Then in the Adelaide Test-Match, he scored 21 runs in the 1st inning and 28 runs in the following one. These scores show that he has not crossed the 50 runs mark even once in the current edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. 
The Southpaw has managed to get off to good starts but he has failed to convert those starts into big knocks. Even in the ongoing Gabba Test-Match, the former Delhi Capitals skipper got dismissed off the bowling of Pat Cummins, managing to score just nine runs in 12 deliveries.
<h2>Rishabh Pant will have to play important knocks if India want to have a chance of winning the series. </h2>
This is the same Rishabh Pant who was batting tremendously well in the home New Zealand Test-Series, but as soon as he arrived in Australia, he has found it hard to score runs. However, Pant still has one inning in the Gabba Test and 2 Test-Matches left in the series where he can turn around his fortunes and India's fortunes as well. 
It remains to be seen how many runs the Southpaw manages to amass for the Men in Blue in the remaining contests. If the Indian Cricket Team want to win their 3rd consecutive BGT series in Australia, then Pant will have to find a way to rediscover his destructive form for which he is known and recognized in the world of Cricket.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajiv Shukla has made a massive statement on issues surrounding the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He said their main focus is related to the safety of their players and they cannot send India to Pakistan. 
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is around the corner, and so far, there hasn't been any clarity about where the tournament will be played. This is because BCCI has opted against sending India to Pakistan and has demanded a hybrid model for the tournament. 
But PCB, too, were firm on their stance as they said that they won't be holding the tournament in a hybrid model. This continued for months before the ICC had a meeting, and it was decided that the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 would be played in a hybrid model, with ICC offering compensation to PCB. 
PCB has been told to accept the hybrid model, and in compensation for that, they have been told not to visit India for the ICC T20 World 2026. Also, they would be given hosting rights of a Women's tournament after 2027 for accepting the two-nation formula.
<h2>We cannot send them to Pakistan - BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla</h2>
The official statement is yet to come, and amid all this, BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla has delivered his take on the same. He said that they prefer a hybrid model and added that ICC is in talks with PCB, and they hope for an amicable solution. Speaking to PTI, he explained: 
“We [BCCI] prefer a hybrid model. But as the ICC chairman is already looking after it and is in talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board, we hope for an amicable solution with both nations [India and Pakistan] agreeing to it without any bitterness." 
Rajiv Shukla was of the opinion that their main focus is on the safety of players, and hence, they won't be sending the team to Pakistan. He concluded by saying that they are looking for a middle ground to sort things out. He explained: 
"The focus is majorly on our players’ safety, and hence we cannot send them to Pakistan. We are looking for a middle ground to sort things out.”
It remains to be seen what will be the final outcome related to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament is expected to take place in February-March. If the hybrid model is accepted, India games will be played in UAE along with one semi-final and final.

Jasprit Bumrah also elaborated on the criticism that the team is facing, saying that he cannot take extra baggage. He wants to give his best with the ball and focus on himself. He said:

The year 2024 has seen many ups and downs for India in cricket. India started with a home series test win over England and went on to break the ICC trophy drought as they won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. But they have also lost their first-ever home test series since 2012.
For the first time, they suffered a test series whitewash at home and also lost an ODI series in Sri Lanka. Apart from that, after winning four consecutive Border-Gavaskar Trophies, it looks like India might lose the ongoing BGT trophy, which will also end their hopes to qualify for the World Test Championship final 2023-25. So, what has changed between the first half of the year and the second half? The answer is the role of coach.
India had Rahul Dravid as coach until the T20 World Cup 2024. After him, Gautam Gambhir took over the Cup and had a mixed stint. Gambhir had a good record in the shortest format, but his presence in red-ball cricket has not helped India. Below we will talk about Gambhir's record as a head coach so far.

It has been very hard for Gautam Gambhir as head coach. Notably, before him, India had a winning streak of over a decade at home. They didn't lose a home series since 2012. Though Gambhir's stint began with a brilliant 2-0 cleansweep over Bangladesh but that was the only happiness he had as coach.
After that, India suffered a humiliating 0-3 whitewash at the hands of New Zealand, which hurt India's chances of making it to the WTC final. The captain-coach duo of Gambhir and Rohit Sharma became the first pair to lose a home test bilateral series by losing all games.
India did secure a win after that against Australia in Perth. But then, lost the day-night test in Adelaide. So far, under Gautam Gambhir, India have played seven tests, won two, and lost four.

There have not been many ODIs for India since Gautam Gambhir became the head coach. India only played a three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka, which they lost 2-0, as one game was tied. Gambhir started his coaching stint with a series defeat in ODIs.

The shortest format is one format that has seen India doing well under Gambhir. And why not? The BCCI appointed Gambhir as head coach after helping KKR to win the IPL 2024, and he has done pretty well in T20Is.
It started with a 3-0 win in Sri Lanka just after Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja retired from T20Is. India then won the T20I series against Bangladesh at home and beat South Africa 3-1 in South Africa. Though VVS Laxman was the interim coach in South Africa but technically, it will be counted under Gambhir.

Destructive left-handed Australian batsman Travis Head has proven to be a constant headache for the Indian Cricket Team be it in T20 Internationals, One Day Internationals or Test-Matches. He never fails to deliver versus Team India. 
Former Indian Cricketer Mohammad Kaif asked the other whether the Men in Blue have found a solution to get rid of Head Or not, who single-handedly led the Aussies to victory with a hundred in the 2023 WTC Final, 2023 ODI World Cup Final, the Adelaide Test-Match and most recently the Gabba Test-Match too. Kaif also went on to question why the Rohit Sharma-led Team have failed to find the weaknesses of Head just as their opponents have found ways to get rid of Virat Kohli. 
Let's take a look at what the stats say and see what kind of strategies the Indian Cricket Team should use to prevent Head from becoming a nightmare in the remaining Tests as well. 

<h2>Offside Trap</h2>
Travis Head has a tendency of getting hit by balls that come to the 4th and 5th stumps at the beginning of the inning. The 30-year-old, who is also a great off-side player, will also play these same balls well once he gets set at the crease. Therefore, statistics say that if at the first 10 deliveries of the inning are bowled to him on the fourth or fifth stumps line, then there's a bigger chance of dismissing Head.
<h2>The weapon known as the bouncer</h2>
Another area where Travis Head has a weakness is the the short-pitched deliveries which hit the body. The 30-year-old, who played a magnificent inning of 140 runs in 141 deliveries in the first inning in the Adelaide test, has faced a total of just five bouncers in total. While he has an average of 55 versus the short balls, the figures show that this drops to 20 for short-pitched deliveries which hit the body. 
But on short-pitched deliveries that miss the target, the average of the 30-year-old increases to 83.5. If the ball pitches outside the off-stump, the average sees a significant increase to 173. Thus, if you know how to execute proper bouncers, If you don't follow the accurate line and length, then there's a chance of retaliation shown by Head. 
In the Adelaide Test-Match, a total of 34 short-pitched deliveries were bowled to Head by the Indian bowlers, but majority of them were in the outside off-stump region. Only five of them were hitting the body and the balls bowled outside off were also smashed for boundaries by the Southpaw. 
<h2>Prevent runs, know yorkers</h2>
The third strategy to keep Head safe is to block easy runs. Along with that, try yorkers. Head was dismissed by Siraj's yorker in Adelaide and Harshit Rana's yorker in the first innings in Perth. Earlier this year, when West Indies defeated Australia at the Gabba, Shamar Joseph also dismissed Head with a yorker. But even there, if there is no accuracy, if the over is pitched or full, Head will be hit.
