CA likely to lift lifetime captaincy ban on David Warner: In a major development, Australian opener batter David Warner is likely to be relieved from his lifetime captaincy ban as Cricket Australia (CA) decides to reconsider its decision.
As per the report of News Corp Australia, Cricket Australia (CA) will review the lifetime ban imposed on former Aussie vice-captain David Warner which restricts him from leading a team. Notably, Warner was sentenced to a 12-month cricket ban and a lifetime ban on captaincy after he was caught in the infamous ?sandpaper-gate? scandal in 2018.
The main motive behind reliving Warner from the captaincy ban is the possibility of losing him to him out to a cash-rich, rival T20 league. With the franchises in the Big Bash League looking keen on getting David Warner on board as the captain of the side, Cricket Australia (CA) has decided to reconsider its decision.
If CA successfully frees him from a lifetime captaincy ban, fans will be able to see the potential return of David Warner into the club cricket as the captain of the side.
Smith, Warner, Bancroft banned for Sandpaper-gate Scandal:
Warner along with then Australian skipper Steven Smith and opener batter Cameron Bancroft were caught in the sandpaper-gate scandal. The three abovementioned cricketers were slapped with bans by Cricket Australia after founding them guilty.
While Steve Smith and David Warner were handed a one-year ban from international and domestic cricket, Bancroft was handed a nine-month suspension.
In addition to the previous punishments, Steve Smith was handed another 12-month suspension from taking up any leadership position while David Warner was handed a lifetime ban in that regard.
It was found that David Warner was the one who conceptualized the plan to intentionally damage the condition of the ball, hence he was given a lifetime ban from leadership.
However, after completing his punishment, Warner made a memorable comeback to international cricket. He became a hero for Australia in their ODI World Cup 2019 campaign. Warner was named as the 'Player of the Tournament' for his superlative performance.
