IPL 2024: When it comes to the most loyal fans and most loved franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is the first name that comes to mind. On the back of the playoff qualification in the previous season, RCB started the 2021 season with consecutive 4 big wins. They even got an 181-run opening stand to defeat Rajasthan Royal by 10 wickets. Led by Virat Kohli, RCB won 5 of their first 6 matches but in the next eight, they lost half of them. 



They ended the group stage with 9 wins and 5 losses to stand third in the points table. They played the Eliminator against Kolkata Knight Riders where they lost by 4 wickets following the Sunil Narine Show. The story of RCB in the 2021 season ended there but they got an excellent young talent in the form of Devdutt Padikal.

An even better year in terms of the level reached but it was disheartening as they were still far from the title. They got a loss in the opening match of their fixture but it was followed by five wins in the next six games. Winning 8 games in the league stage earned them the playoff ticket and they got the eliminator fixture against Lucknow Super Giants and won to proceed to Qualifier 2. 



Rajasthan Royals were waiting for them at Qualifier 2. Not-out 106-run innings from Jos Buttler shattered the dreams of RCB fans as Rajasthan Royals defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 4 wickets.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">IPL 2024: Can RCB get over the line?</h2>



Royal Challengers Bangalore are again considered one of the strongest squads and highly favorites for the title as they were in the past. Under the leadership of Faf du Plessis, the management did a good job on the auction table. They targeted bowling which was their weakest knot in the line-up and now by bagging Lockie Ferguson and Alzari Joseph. They also added Tom Curran and Yash Dayal and they are looking like a better side altogether. 



The squad is once again packed with the prominent faces of international cricket and they are expected to end the league stage in the top three in the IPL Points table. There are high chances that RCB might lift the cup but if it does not happen, they would be the runner-ups. The pressure on the Men's team would double this time as the Women's team won the WPL title in the second season of the tournament.

List Of Purple Cap Winners in IPL year-wise: The Purple Cap is a special award given to the highest wicket-taker in the IPL. The Purple Cap race officially begins when all the franchises have played a match. As the season progresses, the Purple Cap holders change, and after the final, the player with the highest wickets in that season of the league takes home the coveted award.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) excited to own a Women?s IPL team: Punjab Kings (PBKS) co-owner Ness Wadia says he would be ?more than happy? to own a franchise in the proposed Women?s Indian Premier League (IPL) if offered. The IPL governing council recently announced every effort to begin a full-fledged Women?s IPL from 2023.



The officials have zeroed in on a five to six teams Women?s IPL and the existing franchises will be given first preference to own and operate a team.



"We would be more than interested in that (Women's IPL). IPL for women is long overdue and it would be very special when it happens. Women's cricket has really developed over the years," Wadia told PTI.



Indian women?s side, yesterday, lost its final World Cup match against South Africa by close calls. With the loss, India made an early exit from the tournament.



"The World Cup is going on right now and there is so much interest for the women's game. It was heartbreaking to see our team lose yesterday."



When asked about the base price of the Women?s IPL side, Wadia passed the question and said that it will be decided by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).



"That is for the BCCI to decide but I can tell you if we are asked to own a team we would be more than interested. I feel the league would be sustainable as well."



The Indian cricket board has always been under criticism for excessively investing in the men?s IPL and neglecting a full-fledged women?s IPL. With cricket amongst women?s getting popular with each passing day, the WIPL is very much into the scheme of things now.

<h2>Tata IPL 2022 kickstarted with CSKvsKKR:</h2>



The men?s IPL season fifteen began just a couple of days ago with Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) taking on each other in the Wankhede Stadium.



This year, the BCCI initiated a new custom of singing the Indian national anthem before the start of the tournament.&nbsp;



&nbsp;"We discussed (singing the national anthem) with Jay Shah and Sourav Ganguly and they were more than happy to go ahead with it. The national anthem is played in sporting leagues in the USA,? said Ness Wadia.



"I am a die-hard patriot and was overjoyed when it (National Anthem) was played. It is the Indian Premier League after all," Wadia added.

IPL 2022 Mega Auction to be held on February 7 and 8 in Bangalore: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up to host a two-day IPL 2022 Mega Auction on 7 and 8 February. The massive event is likely to be held in Bangalore, senior BCCI officials informed.



The cricket board has been continuously working to set the ball rolling ahead of the IPL 2022. The officials are keen on hosting the two-day event in India itself unless Covid breaks in and cause chaos.



?Unless the COVID-19 situation worsens, we will have the IPL mega auction in India,? said the top BCCI official.



The official further informed that the preparations for the event are underway.



?The two-day event will be held on February 7 and 8 and like other years, we plan to hold it in Bengaluru. Preparations are underway," added the senior official.



It has been also learnt that the IPL 2022 Mega Auction will be the last ever organised mega auction by the BCCI as almost every franchise want?s the system to discontinue. Many franchisees believe that mega auctions have outlived their length and must be scrapped in the coming years.



Earlier there were reports that claimed that the IPL 2022 Mega Auction will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), however, the officials have denied all the false claims.

Unless there are some serious issues of overseas travel due to the penetration of Omicron, the IPL 2022 mega auction will be held in India. However, the BCCI would be fluid in any case if it is required to change the venue.



<h2>3 Draft Pick for new IPL teams:</h2>



From the coming year, 10 teams will compete in the IPL. The BCCI added two new IPL teams in Ahmedabad and Lucknow.



While Lucknow has received their letter of intent, the CVC Capitals owned Ahmedabad is yet to receive it. The franchise is expected to get it in the coming two weeks.



Both the two new teams have time until Christmas to reveal their three draft picks, however, the case involving CVC Capitals's overseas betting engagement has hindered the process. The BCCI is likely to extend the deadline for the draft pick.



Moreover, the reports also suggest that the IPL 2022 will be held in India, starting April 2. The opener will be played between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) in Chennai?s Chepauk.

IPL 2022: Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri in his recent conversation with ?The Week,? said that he is absolutely ready to take up the coaching role for any IPL Franchise in the coming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he is well aware of the thinking process of the cricketers of the present generation.?



Shastri recently quit his coaching roles in team India after India?s early crash in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. India lost two of its most important matches to Pakistan and New Zealand following which India?s chances of moving to the semis of the World Cup got diminished.



In the recent past, even before Shastri quit national duties, he was reported to have been approached by the officials of Ahmedabad based IPL franchise for the coaching role. Though it?s not confirmed, but Shastri along with Bharat Arun and R Sridhar are likely to link up with Ahmedabad for the IPL 2022.



?If asked, I would 100 per cent like to be a franchise coach. I will definitely do broadcast work. I have 25 years of experience there and have travelled the globe. [Also,] I now know how the modern player thinks,? Shastri was quoted as saying to The Week.

The former Indian cricketer also opened up on his decision to end his tenure as India?s head coach after four years of service. Shastri coached India from 2017 to 2021. He took up the reins of the team in 2017 after Anil Kumble stepped down following a bitter fallout between Indian captain Virat Kohli and him.



?I decided in England that this was it. We had been on the road for two years. I needed to spend time with family. There is a time and place for everything. I had done my time. I gave it all, came [to the job] without any agenda,? he stated.



The 59-years old also heaped praises on Indian skipper Virat Kohli for his evolution as a cricketer and as the captain of the team. He reckons that it?s quite arduous to be the captain of the Indian side and he carried it through all these years and still continue to do so efficiently.



?At the end of the day, he has been a tactically sound captain. Efficient. People will always judge you by results, or not by how you got the runs, but how many runs you scored. He has evolved well; he has matured as a player. It is not easy being captain of the Indian team,? Shastri added.

Usain Bolt to undergo ?training? to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL).



The eight-time Olympic champion runner, Usain Bolt, has decided to try the sport of cricket as his new profession. The legendary sprinter has expressed his inclination towards the sport of cricket several times in the past. He has also admitted that he wanted to be a cricketer, not a Sprinter, however, he chose the latter option as his father insisted on him.



The sprinter has recently revealed that he is aiming for the cash-rich Indian Premier League and has started practising cricket. The 35-years old wants to play cricket, more precisely the Indian T20 league.



The revealed that on his father?s advice, he took up Sprint as his career in which he bagged eight Olympic golds.&nbsp;



?My father is a huge cricket fan, but when I got to higher secondary, I had two options ? cricket or athletics. My dad said because of the system in Jamaica; it would be better to take up athletics. You just have to run fast in athletics while it?s tougher to get into the national (cricket) team?,? Bolt had told AFP during his promotional visit to India in 2014.

<h2>Cricket is Bolt's first love, not Athletics:</h2>



In his recent conversation with Hindustan Times, Bolt expressed his wish to be a part of the elite Indian Premier League.&nbsp;



He said that two sports, Cricket and Football, were most popular in Jamaica and due to his father?s inclination towards cricket, he grew up as a big cricket fan.



?Definitely. I will get my training on. I?ll get fit and get ready. The two main sports in Jamaica at the time was actually was football and cricket. I was a massive fan of cricket because my dad was a fan of it. He watched it every day, every chance you get, you would watch all the teams play so I grew up watching cricket.?



Bolt added that while growing up, he used to love watching the Pakistan team in action. He was a huge fan of pacer Waqar Younis but then realised that as a Jamaican he should support his home team.&nbsp;



?When I was really small, I loved the Pakistan cricket team. Waqar (Younis) was one of the greatest Pakistan bowlers ever, and I was a bowler, so I really enjoyed watching him. I was a big Pakistan fan until I got older when I noticed that I should actually support my home team,? added Bolt.

The upcoming mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is reportedly going to be the last mega auction the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will conduct. The recent reports suggest that the IPL will no longer work on auctions and teams will have to form their own ecosystem.



The coming IPL auction is going to be huge in the history of the cash-rich league. With two teams getting in, making the IPL a ten-teams affair, BCCI is planning to host its final IPL auction in January 2022.



However, before IPL 2022 mega auction, the franchises will have to confirm their top-four player retentions, if there are any, by today evening.



A tweet from the verified handle of Shriniwas Rao stated the news that has probably brought everyone on their toes.

The franchises will now work on their own ecosystems to recruit players from all across the globe. There will be trade between the two teams so that players can be exchanged if both parties agree.



However, no official confirmation has been made yet. Nor any BCCI close source has quoted the same or dwelled upon this idea of late. It will be interesting to see how the BCCI react to these reports in the coming future.



As of now, the Indian cricket board is engaged in conducting the player retention process of the IPL 2022. The franchises have been asked to submit their final four confirmed player retentions by today i.e., 30th November.

Ness Wadia, the co-ower of Punjab Kings (PBKS), feels it?s high time for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to allow franchisees to play the showcase matches outside the Indian territory as it will only strengthen the IPL as a brand.



Indian Premier League?s (IPL) brand value took off recently after several giant overseas corporate entities came under one roof to place their bids to acquire the operations of one of the two new teams. The elite competition not only garnered a whopping $1.5 Billion but also attracted some of the famed bidders from the global sports community.



Wadia took it to no surprise after investors showed their keenness to shell out a handsome sum to operate the IPL Franchise. He reckons that constant innovation is the need of the hour for any business to flourish in front of the entire world.

?I don?t think the numbers are mindboggling. Sport is big business now. It is a good investment. The league truly deserves it. These are serious businessmen we are talking about. They invest in things with a purpose. It has taken us 14 years to reach where the league deserves to be. I am happy that it has finally happened,? said Wadia as quoted by the New Indian Express.



The further suggested the cricket governing body of India to allow the IPL teams to carry out a few exhibition matches in different countries based on the availability of the key players.



?The BCCI must consider having off-season matches to be held in places where there is a big Indian diaspora. That will grow the IPL even more. A bunch of three or five games in the off-season based on player availability. Hypothetically, allow the top four franchisees every year to play a few games in, for example, Miami or in Toronto or in Singapore. It will only strengthen what already is a strong product,? he added.
