The England National Cricket Team has suffered a massive blow ahead of the second ODI against the West Indies National Cricket Team. Star all-rounder Jamie Overton has been ruled out of the entire series, as well as the T20I series after that. 
Jamie Overton suffered an injury during the first ODI against the West Indies at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The all-rounder broke his little finger and looked in immense pain. He underwent scans which didn't come out good as he was deemed unfit to take part in the series ahead. 
Jamie Overton will now be undergoing rehabilitation and will be under the supervision of the England medical team. The ECB released the official statement on the same, confirming that they won't be adding any replacements.

“England and Surrey all-rounder Jamie Overton has been ruled out of the remaining Metro Bank One-Day Internationals and the Vitality IT20s against the West Indies due to a broken right little finger. 
Overton sustained the injury during England’s first Metro Bank ODI victory at Edgbaston on Thursday. He will now undergo a period of rehabilitation under the supervision of the England medical team. No replacement will be added to the ODI squad.” 
Jamie Overton was the pick of the bowlers for England in the first ODI against the West Indies. He picked up three wickets and helped his team win the game. The all-rounder returned with the figures of 3/22 in the 5.2 overs that he bowled. 
Coming to the ODI series, England is ahead by a margin of 1-0. Under the leadership of Harry Brook, they won the game by a massive margin of 238 runs. They would be keen to seal the series in the second game itself. The game will be played on Sunday (1st June).

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the playing 11 for the first ODI against the West Indies. The match between the two teams is all set to take place at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Thursday, 29th May. 
England will be captained by Harry Brook as the series against West Indies will mark his first assignment as a full-time captain of the team. The Three Lions will see a new opening combination from the last time they played an ODI. 
Ben Duckett will be opening the innings with Jamie Smith. This will be the first time that Smith will be opening in his career. While number three spot will be taken by Joe Root, who has been in a great run of form. Skipper Harry Brook will be taking the number four spot. 
Former skipper Jos Buttler will be the keeper-batter in the team and would be keen to make a solid Impact. Jacob Bethell will be following him at six, and the batter will be holding the key for the team in all three ODIs against the West Indies National Cricket Team. 
Will Jacks also be featuring in the first ODI against West Indies. The all-rounder will make a comeback to the team after a while, and he will be keen to make an impact and seal his place in the team. 
The bowling department of England will comprise Jamie Overton, Saqib Mahmood and Brydon Carse, who will be the fast bowlers. Adil Rashid will be there as a specialist spinner.

England National Cricket Team has announced the squad for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against the West Indies National Cricket Team. Harry Brook, who was recently announced as the skipper, will be leading the team in both series. 
The England vs West Indies will begin with the three-match ODI series. The first game will be played on 29th May at Edgbaston, followed by the second match to be played at Sophie Gardens on 1st June. The third and final game will be played at the Oval on 3rd June. 
After that, the T20I series is all set to be played from 6th June at Riverside Ground. The second match will be played at County Ground, Bristol, on 8th June, followed by the last match, slated to take place on 10th June at Rose Bowl. 
This will be the first assignment for Harry Brook after being appointed as the full-time skipper of England. The young batter would want to start the stint on high and win both the series and mark the new chapter in English Cricket. 
Liam Dawson has been named in the T20I team for the first time since 2022. All-rounder Will Jacks will also be making his comeback for England. He has been named in both the squads after his impressive performances in the IPL 2025 for Mumbai Indians. 
Phil Salt has been dropped from the ODI squad but has retained his place in T20I. Also, Luke Wood has been named in the team for the shortest format of the game. Liam Livingstone also has been dropped from the side.

The Cricket playing nation of Pakistan, after successfully securing the rights host the upcoming ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025, is all set to host yet another major ICC event in 2025 - The Qualifiers of the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025.
According to multiple Pakistani media reports, the matches of the qualifiers will be played in multiple cities across the country in the month of April, ahead of the ODI Women's Cup in India later this year. 
This event will feature women's Cricket teams from six countries, including the provisional hosts Pakistan, Ireland, Bangladesh, Thailand, Scotland and the West Indies. 
The finalists of this upcoming qualifying event will advance to the upcoming mega women's event of this year, the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025 and they will join the top six teams from the 2022-2025 ICC Women's Championship for the eight-team tournament.
The main motive of the Shaheens who will also be taking part in the qualifiers, will be to secure their qualification berth and perform well in the upcoming matches. Also, the Pakistani media reports claim that the qualifying matches of the Women's ODI World Cup 2025 are anticipated to commence on the 4th of April and culminate on the 19th of April, with Pakistani cities like Lahore &amp; Karachi expected to play host to majority of the games. 
In order to prepare in a thorough manner for the Women's qualifiers, the PCB has gone ahead and decided to launch a training camp of 27-days for the Women's National Cricket Team of Pakistan at Faisalabad's High-Performance Academy (HPA).

Jomel Warrican, the slow left-arm orthodox spinner of the West Indies has been crowned ICC Men's Player of the Month for January of 2025, thanks to his brilliant performance with the ball in the two-match Test Series versus Pakistan. 
The ICC Player of the Month award recognizes the outstanding individual displays and performances of the players at the highest level of Cricket and the nominees selected for the month of January were all spin bowlers who excelled across various formats of the game. 
Warrican faced tough competition from India's mystery leg spinner Varun Chakaravarthy and Noman Ali of Pakistan. The West Indian spinner delivered the best performance of his career with the ball versus the Shaheens and helped his team draw the two-match series. 
In the first Test-Match, the 32-year-old ended the match with figures of 10-101 to his name which also turned out to be the best bowling figures of his career in the longest format of the game and with the bat, he played an unbeaten knock of 31* runs. 
In the second match of the series, he carried forward his good momentum of the first contest into the second one and delivered yet another amazing performance, as he dismissed four Pakistani batters in the first inning and followed it up with a fifer in the second inning, ending the match with figures of 9-70.
In addition to his terrific performance with the ball, the 32-year-old also contributed 54 runs with the bat as the Windies marched their way to victory in the second encounter, thereby ensuring the series ended in a draw.  
Overall, Warrican scored a total of 85 runs at a good average of 42.50 and also claimed 19 scalps at an exceptional average of nine, earning him the Man-of-the-Series award.

An entertaining start to the match. On a rank-turner, Pakistan lost three wickets to seamer, Jayden Seales who was just superb in his spell. He pushed hard to bowl a length spell and got three big wickets. West Indies applied spin from other end, Gudakesh Motie bowled throughout the session but he was not at his best. There is a lot of turn on this pitch and if Gudakesh Motie gets his rhythm, he could be a dangerous customer for Pakistan who after losing four wickets, got a much needed partnership in Shakeel and Rizwan. The duo did well to end the session without losing any more wickets and will hope to do the same in the final session.

The Men's National Cricket Team of the West Indies, under the captaincy of Kraigg Brathwaite are going to travel to Pakistan in order to take part in a two-match Test-Series with the opening encounter set to be played in the city of Multan from the 17th of January onwards while the second and the final one will also be played the same stadium and it will commence from the 25th of January onwards. 
The selection committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had announced a 15-player squad of the National Team a few days ago for the West Indies Test-Series and seven players, who were included in the squad for the tour of South Africa have not been picked in the forthcoming series versus the Windies. 
25-year-old Abdullah Shafique, who was picked as an opening batter versus the Proteas, is not a part of the squad versus the Kraigg Brathwaite-led team due to his poor form with the bat while, explosive opening batter Saim Ayub misses out due to an ankle injury.

The PCB Selection Committee have instead decided to include experienced batter Imam-ul-haq and 22-year-old Mohammad Huraira in the team for the West Indies Series. Imam hasn't played Test Cricket for the Shaheens since being dropped in 2023 after the end of Pakistan's tour of Australia and this recall versus the Windies gives him a good opportunity to reclaim his spot in the team. 
Huraira on the other hand, was a part of the team for the England Test-Series but he didn't get a chance to feature in any game. He has taken part in 44 first class games and has eight fifties next to his name.
Now, the question which arises in the current situation is, who will come out to open the inning for the Green Shirts versus the Kraigg Brathwaite-led West Indies? 
In the 2nd Test-Match versus the Temba Bavuma-led South Africa in New Lands, following the injury of Ayub, former skipper Babar Azam came out to open the inning alongside skipper Shan Masood in both the innings of the encounter. In the 2nd inning, with the visitors trailing by 421 runs, the duo of Azam &amp; Masood sitched a solid partnership of 205 runs for the first wicket. 
It's now being reported that the team management of Pakistan has decided that Babar will not be the opener in the Test-Series versus the Windies. The 30-year-old had played good knocks of 58 runs and 81 runs in both the innings of the Cape Town Test-Match and this call of not making him open is a surprising one. 
In the two-match Test-Series versus South Africa, Babar scored a total of 193 runs in four innings with three fifties next to his name. It's looking highly likely that the former captain will be coming out to bat at number three in the batting in the upcoming Test-Series versus the Kraigg Brathwaite-led team. In 21 test-innings at the number three spot, he has scored 564 runs at a not so impressive average of 29.68.

Pakistan has named the 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies. Both games will be played at Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan from 17-21 January and 25-29 January. 
Pakistan has made as many as 7 changes to their squad from the Test series against South Africa. Due to the workload management, they have rested some of the key players of the team while out-of-form players too have been dropped from the team for the two-match series. 
From the last series, Shan Masood, Saud Shakeel, Babar Azam, Kamran Ghulam, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Rizwan, Noman Ali, and Salman Ali Agha have been rested. Spinners Sajid Khan, Abrar Ahmed and Nouman Ali have been recalled into the team, having played a huge role in the last Test series at home. 
Saim Ayub was ruled out of the squad due to ankle injury while Abdullah Shafique has been dropped due to poor form. In his place, Imam-ul-Haq has been recalled into the side along with Mohammad Huraira, and the duo is likely to form an opening combination. 
Pakistan has given rest to pacers in Aamir Jamal, Mohammad Abbas, Mir Hamza, and Naseem Shah. Hence, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Ali and uncapped Kashif Ali will be forming the pace attack for the team in the series against West Indies.
Keeper-batter Haseebullah, who got injured during the South Africa series, wasn't picked due to fitness issues. In his place, uncapped Rohail Nazir has been added to the team. The Test series will also be part of the ICC World Test Championship.
