IPL 2024: After a resounding six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opening match of IPL 2024, the Chennai Super Kings will now face the Gujarat Titans in their second match. Shubman Gill-led GT started the tournament by defeating their first five-time champion, the Mumbai Indians. Now it will be exciting to see whether the mastermind duo of Ashish Nehra and Shubman Gill can defeat Chennai at the MA Chidambaram Stadium or whether Chennai remains invincible at its home ground.
After Hardik Pandya left the Gujarat franchise, the biggest problem for him has been middle-order batting. In the first match against Mumbai Indians, captain Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha gave a good start to Gujarat Titans, while Sai Sudharsan, who came at number three, also played an important inning of 45 runs. But after the top-order batsmen, in the middle-order, Azmatullah Omarzai, David Miller, and Vijay Shankar did not get much good support, due to which the team could score only 168 runs in 20 overs.
Chennai Super Kings were seen performing well in the first match under the captaincy of their new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and under the tutelage of Dhoni. In the first bowling action, Bangladeshi left-hand pacer Mustafizur Rahman took four wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs, while CSK's star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja gave only 19 runs in four overs.
Even in batting, all their batsmen are scoring for the Chennai Super Kings. Rachin Ravindra, playing his first match of IPL, played an inning of 37 runs in just 15 balls with the help of three fours and three sixes. In the middle order, Ajinkya Rahane scored 27, Daryl Mitchell scored 22, while Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja are playing the role of finishers very well. Dube and Jadeja had led the team forward by remaining not-out in the first match. Dube played an inning of 34 runs, while Jadeja played an inning of 25 runs.
