CSK vs GT: What happens if IPL Final is washed out on reserve day? The entire cricket fraternity saw testing times on Sunday (May 28th) as rain played spoilsport on the occasion of the massive Tata IPL 2023 Final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The packed stadium saw thousands of helpless eyes praying to rain god to cease its effect.
However, the inevitable happened and no play was possible on May 28th with the rain not easing off and the fixture was moved to the reserve day i.e., Monday (29th May). Although fans and pundits would be optimistic to see some action and the two sides getting to a result on the reserve day, there is a forecast for rain on Monday as well. So, there remains the question of what will happen if the IPL Final is washed out on reserve day between CSK and GT.
The weather hasn't been at its best in Ahmedabad in the last few days. In fact, the Qualifier 2 between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans was affected by a brief spell of rain ahead of the fixture. Due to the rain showers, the game saw a 30-minute delay in its start, a couple of days ago.
However, the weather forecast for Sunday and Monday was quite intense. There were around 70-80 per cent chances of rain on Sunday and Monday is predicted to see thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Let's take a look at the Weather Forecast for reserve day and CSK vs GT: What happens if IPL Final is washed out on reserve day?
CSK vs GT: Weather Forecast for Reserve Day
The weather on Monday in Ahmedabad is encouraging and bright for the IPL 2023 Final to be held between CSK and GT. Although thunderstorms are anticipated at around 5 PM IST, the match hours (7:30 PM onwards) look clear with no rain threats. Scattered clouds can be seen in the sky throughout the day.
All in all, fans can expect a full-length 40-over match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) to mark the end of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.
CSK vs GT: What happens if IPL Final is washed out on reserve day?
It's very unlikely to happen, but if no play is possible on reserve day as well due to extraordinary circumstances, Gujarat Titans (GT) will be crowned as the champions, against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), of the Tata IPL 2023 due to their superior position in the points table during the league stages.
The cut-off time for the reserve day will remain similar to what we saw on Sunday. The overs will start reducing after 9:30 PM IST. The rescheduled playing conditions would be: 9:45 PM - 19 over match per side, 10 PM - 17 over match per side and 10:30 PM - 15 over match per side.
The final time to get a five-over contest will be 12:06 AM. In case the five-over per-side match is also not possible, the umpires would look for a Super Over, the cut-off time for which is 1:20 AM IST.
Meanwhile, if a Super Over is also not on the cards, then Gujarat Titans will gain the advantage of being at the top of the table at the end of the 70-match league stage. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be adjudged as the runner-up of the Tata IPL 2023.
