Former South African speedster Dale Steyn, who was a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) as their bowling-coach on Thursday, 17th of October, announced his decision of stepping-down from the post ahead of IPL 2025 on his X handle.

The 41-year-old, who represented the likes of Gujarat Lions (now-defunct), Sunrisers Hyderabad, Deccan Chargers (now-defunct) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru as a player before opting to become the bowling-coach of the Hyderabad based franchise, said that he won’t be coming back to India for the upcoming edition of the cash-rich T20 league but he will continue to represent the sister-franchise of SRH, two time winners Sunrisers Eastern Cape in SA20, the t20 league of South Africa and help them in lifting the trophy for the third successive time.

“I would want to express my gratitude to Sunrisers Hyderabad for the few years I worked there as their bowling coach during the IPL, but I will not be returning for the 2025 edition of the tournament. But here in South Africa, I will still be working with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20. Steyn tweeted, “We’ve won the SA20 twice; let’s try for three in a row.”

The former legendary South African seamer was appointed as the bowling-coach of the Hyderabad based franchise in December of 2021, and he represented the franchise in that role for three seasons. Under his guidance, players such as Umran Malik flourished in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League as the J&K pacer picked up 22 scalps in 14 games and he also got the opportunity to represent India in International-Cricket.

In the previous edition of the IPL, Steyn worked with ODI World Cup winning Australian captain Pat Cummins, who was also appointed as the skipper of the 2016 IPL winners after being picked up in the 2024 auction for a humongous price tag of 20.50 crore Indian rupees.

Captain Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma & Heinrich Klassen set to be retained in the IPL 2025 Mega-Auction

Indian Batting All-rounder Abhishek Sharma, hard-hitting wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klassen, and captain Pat Cummins are all expected to stay with Sunrisers Hyderabad, the IPL 2016 winners and 2024 runners-up. Heinrich will be the Hyderabad-based team’s top retention pick for an incredible 23 crore Indian Rupees, while Cummins will be the second pick for 18 crore rupees, according to ESPNCRICINFO.

At a price tag of 14 crore-rupees, spin bowling all-rounder Abhishek Sharma will also be retained. In addition to these three players, Indian All-rounder Nitish Reddy and Travis Head, Australia’s clutch opening batter, are probably going to stay with the team.
