India tour to Sri Lanka: Deepak Chahar backs southpaw Shikhar Dhawan to take the reins of Indian team in Sri Lanka tour.
India tour to Sri Lanka: Indian pacer Deepak Chahar put forward the name of southpaw Shikhar Dhawan to take the reins of the second-string Indian team that will tour Sri Lanka in July. Chahar feels that Dhawan is senior in the team and has enough experience to successfully lead a fairly young team.
India will tour Sri Lanka for a three games ODI series and as many T20Is games while the senior players will be absent for the tour. The likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be in England for the India-England five games Test series which will begin on 4th August.
In the history of world cricket, this will only be the second time when India will field their two teams simultaneously. India is the first country to achieve this feat in Cricket. Last time back in 1998, India fielded two teams simultaneously but ended up losing both the games.
The squad for the Sri Lanka tour is still not announced, it is expected that the team will be out towards the end of June. The selectors will be in jeopardy over whom to hand the reins of the team.

According to the reports, Shikhar Dhawan, Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are the three most prominent contenders for the roles. Apart from this, Rahul Dravid will travel with the team as a head coach.
?Shikhar bhai will be a good choice (for captain). He has been playing for a long time and has a lot of experience. For me, a senior person should become a captain. Because players see that player as a senior and respect him and obey him with honesty. Players should respect their captain. He (Dhawan) will be a good choice,? claimed Chahar.
Chahar who performed well in the Vivo IPL 2021 is confident of making it to the team. He picked up 8 wickets in seven games with two four wickets haul. He also feels that the Indian squad will have a fair chance to win the series even in absence of the senior players.
?I am all set for the Sri Lanka tour. I bowled well in the IPL. I was in good touch. I am excited to play in Sri Lanka. In my opinion, experience gives you a lot of confidence. I have experience now and I am confident of a good showing in Sri Lanka. I am sure we will emerge victorious against Sri Lanka. Our second-string team is looking as strong as the main team. We have a lot of options,? Chahar further said.
