The 2025 IPL Mega-Auction ended on a successful note and all 10 franchises have built their respective squads for the next three seasons of the tournament. But, some big teams are still facing uncertainties in regards to their captains.
The likes of Delhi Capitals (DC), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are searching for new skippers ahead of the upcoming edition of the cash-rich T20 league.
Only Chennai Super Kings (Ruturaj Gaikwad), Mumbai Indians (Hardik Pandya), Sunrisers Hyderabad (Pat Cummins), Rajasthan Royals (Sanju Samson) and the Gujarat Titans (Shubman Gill) have confirmed captaincy players.
Talking about 2020 runners-up Delhi Capitals (DC), the franchise retained a total of four players ahead of the Mega-Auction and they are: Kuldeep Yadav (13.25 crore rupees), Abhishek Porel (4 crore rupees), Axar Patel (16.50 crore rupees) and Tristan Stubbs (10 crore rupees).
At the same time, they also managed to sign elite Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul for a huge fee of 14 crore Indian rupees in the auction.
Alongside Rahul, former RCB skipper Faf du Plessis is also a part of the squad of the Capitals and he's a proven captain in the IPL. Spin bowling all-rounder Axar Patel has captained the franchise in the past and he's also a big contender for handling the leadership duties of the franchise. But till now, a lot of suspense has been created regarding the next captain of the Delhi-based-team.
Regarding the captaincy related conundrum, Parth Jindal, the owner of the Delhi Capitals (DC) has given a complete clarification regarding the whole situation. He said, "It's way too early to talk about the captaincy part of our team. Axar (Patel) has been a part of the franchise for a really long period of time. He was also the team's vice-captain in the previous editions of the IPL, so we have not decided yet whether Axar will be given the leadership duties or some one else".
" I have also spoken to Rahul but I haven't met him personally yet. I know him quite well as a player and I know his capabilities as a captain. I will understand his thinking process first and accordingly the decision will be taken. The coaching staff will also play an important role in helping us elect our new captain ahead of the next season but ultimately the final decision will be taken by myself and Kiran Gandhi (co-owner of DC)," Jindal added.
