South Africa Tour: In the T20 batting approach, the best skippers KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma faced many flakes but the head coach Rahul Dravid feels that they have great quality and even expects a positive and good start that will give them the push to perform better in World Cup. The approach of three players in the overs of powerplay comes under the radar in the last World T20. But Dravid makes it clear that he is not going to shake the top three skippers on the field. Though, the team's no.1 batter and the regular skipper are taking a break from the South Africa series due to fitness grounds.
Dravid said during the event of the first T20 international series with South Africa that He knows that these three skippers are the best and are top class. In this particular series, there will be a slight difference in the top three but in general, it is always the same. As per the situation, it is a good and even a positive start for the team.
Both Kohli and Rahul faced lots of criticism in the strike rate of powerplay but without taking the names the coach does agree there will be a necessity for improvement in the strike rate. For a high-scoring game, players should balance the strike rate. If the wickets are more challenging, then the players have to respond accordingly.
He also believes that the players must have role clarity in international T29 matches compared to their respective franchises of IPL. Positivity is what it needs to play a T20 match and the players do that with zeal. As a coach, we will give them the role clarity and he gives assurance with confidence that anyone who is in the top three will play their role accordingly. We must also ensure Rohit stays fit for big matches.
The coach, Rahul Dravid also mentions that it is unrealistic for anyone to expect a player like Rohit Sharma an all-format player to play all the series. It is also necessary to give rest to the regular captain at a regular interval and it is not difficult at all.
