Pakistan and England are set to take on each other in the second game of the four-match T20 International series today in Birmingham's Edgbaston Stadium. The match will commence at 7:00 pm IST.
The first match of the series got washed out due to constant rain without a ball being bowled but three more games are still left, and both teams will be looking to give their best in the second T20 International and take the lead in the series. This Pakistan vs England T20 series is acting as a preparatory ground for both sides as they can try various combinations in these games and get an idea regarding their best possible playing 11 combinations, which will help them perform well in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, which is set to commence from 2nd June in the United States of America and the West Indies.?
Pakistan and England locked horns against each other in the 2022 T20 World Cup final at Melbourne's iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) where the Three Lions emerged victorious in the end after a really good game of Cricket. As the Jos Buttler lead team begins their title defense, the Shaheens will be eyeing to lift their first T20 World Cup trophy since 2009.
Talking about Pakistan?s playing 11 for the second T20, Pakistani skipper, Babar Azam announced in the pre-match press conference ahead of the first T20 international in Leeds, which got washed out due to rain that he will be batting at number three. Babar coming in to bat at number three means Wicket Keeper Batsman Mohammad Rizwan is going to open the innings for the Shaheens alongside Saim Ayub.
The middle order will consist of dynamic batters like Azam Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed and all-rounder Imad Wasim which will offer the Men in Green an opportunity to set a solid foundation for scoring runs at a quick pace and change gears according to the situation. Azam Khan will also be seen handling the wicket-keeping duties.
Talking about the bowling department, Shaheen Shah Afridi will be the leader of the pack alongside Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah. Rauf has recently returned from a long injury layoff and these T20 international matches against England will be important for the 30-year-old to get back to proper match sharpness ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Leg Spinner Abrar Ahmed will be handling the spin bowling duties alongside Imad Wasim and if Abrar performs well with the ball in tough English conditions then he will seal his spot in the playing 11 for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
