Faf du Plessis retires from Test Cricket: South Africa
South African cricketer Faf du Plessis has announced his retirement from the longest format of Cricket. On Wednesday, du Plessis took his Instagram handle to inform the fans about his decision to quit the longest format, he said, ?My heart is clear and the time is right to walk into a new chapter.??
He said for the next two years, he wants to focus on the other two formats of cricket and do good there for any side he is playing.
The 36 years old finally brought down the curtain to his test career days after the Australia tour to South Africa was cancelled due to increasing Covid-19 complications in South Africa.
Du Plessis started his test career with a bang and saved the match for South Africa in the fourth inning and scored a century at Adelaide back in 2012 and since then there was no looking back. He went on to play 69 test games for South Africa and captained the side too.
He was handed over the captaincy from AB de Villiers and led South Africa in 36 test games before he gave up in the role last January.
He ended 2020 with a fine 199 runs knock against Sri Lanka at Centurian and has as many as 4163 runs in his Test career at an average of 40.02. He has amassed 10 tons and 21 half-centuries.
With the two ICC events lying up at stake ahead, du Plessis decided to shift his focus towards these events and be best there.
?"The next two years are ICC T20 World Cup years. Because of this, my focus is shifting to this format and I want to play as much of it as possible around the world so that I can be the best player I can possibly be.?
?I strongly believe that I have a lot to offer to Protea in this format and that does not mean that I don?t want to play the One Day Internationals. It just that T20Is are the short term priority for me right now.?
