Good news for Sunrisers Hyderabad! Captain Pat Cummins resumes bowling ahead of IPL 2025
There's some great news for last season's runners-up Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025). Captain of the team and elite bowler Pat Cummins has made his highly awaited return to the Cricket field after injury. He has resumed bowling and has started training as well.
Cummins was retained by the Hyderabad-based team for 18 crore Indian rupees ahead of the Mega Auction. Under his leadership, the team made it to the final but they suffered a defeat versus the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Trophy deciding clash.
He got injured during the BGT series
It's worth noting that the Australian Men's National Cricket Team will also be participating in the Final of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle versus South Africa in June of this year and the fitness of Cummins will be very important for that game. The 31-year-old has been out of action since the end of the 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy versus India in January.
He hurt his ankle during that series but carried on playing with the aim of helping his team lift the Border Gavaskar Trophy. However, he wasn't able to play in the Sri Lanka tour and Champions Trophy 2025 held in Pakistan after that.
What did Pat Cummins say about his injury comeback?
Cummins is eager to get back on the field again and has revealed that he plans to make his highly-awaited comeback in IPL 2025. Speaking to the popular Cricket website ESPNCricinfo, the Australian skipper said, "My ankle is fine now. It has received a good amount of rest and it's improving gradually, which you don't get when you play a lot of matches. It's feeling as strong as before and I should be able to play in the IPL, that's the plan. So a few weeks of bowling in the nets, getting back to normal and in a better way, and then hopefully not having to worry about it for a while."
Cummins will be focussing more on Test Cricket
The 31-year-old is quite confident about building up his workload ahead of the IPL. He's also considering playing in four continuous Test matches, including the three-match Test Series versus the West Indies post the conclusion of the WTC Final. He may sit out of some ODI & T20i matches with the main focus being completely fit for the all-important Ashes series versus England to be held in Australia later this year.
He led SRH in a brilliant manner last year as his team performed amazingly well in the majority of the IPL matches last season except the Final. He participated in 16 games and took 18 wickets. He has dismissed 63 batters in 58 IPL matches so far.
