Guidelines for IPL 2022 Playoffs as rain probable to play spoilsport: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday, May 23rd released 10-points guidelines/rules for the IPL 2022 playoffs that will begin on May 24 in Kolkata?s Eden Gardens. With rain likely to hamper the proceedings or perhaps wash the entire game out, the Indian cricket board has come up with solutions which will be implemented if situations go out of control.
The entire league stage of the Tata IPL 2022 went smoothly with zero rain damage, however, the forecast for further matches is not encouraging. The BCCI scheduled the first two playoff matches in Eden Garden?s Kolkata while the next two will be played in Ahmedabad?s Narendra Modi Stadium.
Notably, the rain threat looming over the qualifier 1 and Eliminator in Kolkata has pushed the officials to release alternative solutions in case the matches are washed out due to a downpour.
Down below is a 10-point guideline for the IPL 2022 playoff matches released by the BCCI to tackle the heavy rain.

Guidelines released by BCCI:
- Each playoff match will have an extra time of 120 minutes.
- If rain plays spoilsport, the playoff match can start as late as 9:40 PM (IST) with a complete quota of overs for both the sides along with intervals and times outs in between. The final can start as late as 10:10 PM (IST) with the full quota of overs and intervals in between.
- A day has been reserved for the IPL 2022 final on May 30th if no play is possible on May 29th which is the original day for staging the Tata IPL 2022 final.
- The number of overs can be reduced to five apiece in the playoff match so as to give a fair opportunity to both the sides.
- The five-over match can start as late as 11:56 PM (IST) with 10-minute intervals and no time outs in between. The scheduled finish is at 12:50 PM.
- If Tata IPL 2022 final has begun but rain stops further play for the day, the match will resume on the reserve day at the point where it stopped the previous night.
- The Super Over will decide the winner of the Qualifier and Eliminator (where there is no reserve day) if due to harsh conditions it is not possible to schedule even a 5 over match.
- The same goes with the Final. If rain washes out the reserve day along with extra time granted for the final, the winner will be decided on the basis of a Super Over, if conditions permit.
- In case no Super Over can be scheduled (qualifier and eliminator) as described on points 7 and 8, the IPL 2022 playoff standings will determine the winner of the respective playoff match or final. The team ranking higher in the points table will eventually be crowned winners.
