He took Gujarat Titans, a brand new IPL franchise, to the title victory in its maiden season in 2022. After his success as GT skipper, Hardik has been consistently contributing to team India’s success and has now become an indispensable part of the side.
Notably, India will host Sri Lanka for the three-match Twenty20 series, starting January 3 in Mumbai. While addressing the media on the eve of the 1st T20I, Hardik was asked what is he looking forward to achieving, to which he said: “Looking forward to the World Cup coming.”
“‘what I want to achieve?’ Sir, there is a lot to achieve, I’ve not achieved anything. Looking forward to the World Cup coming. There will be multiple World Cups in multiple years and the goal will be to win them,” said Hardik Pandya.
The all-rounder added that the previous year was significant for him. Hardik made drastic strides in his cricketing career since his comeback. He not only became a regular face of the Indian side but now has also been touted as a future leader of the peck.
“One year back things were quite different. When I went out of the sport, which was my call to spend time and get better at it, and it has been a magical year for me. Obviously would have liked the World Cup also but that is part and parcel. We tried but it did not happen.”
When enquired about his New Year Resolutions, Hardik said: “The biggest to win the World Cup and I don’t think any bigger resolutions can be there. Really want to win the World Cup and we will try everything possible in our capacity to go out there, give everything and I think things are looking right.”
Hardik Pandya will lead a new face Indian side in the upcoming three-game T20I series against Sri Lanka which starts tomorrow (January 3). The squad will be without the services of three stalwarts of Indian cricket – Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.
