IPL 2021: I couldn?t sleep for 8-9 days, says Ravichandran Ashwin on leaving IPL midway.
IPL 2021: Senior Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin revealed how difficult it went for him when he had sleepless nights for straight 8-9 days in the IPL after his family contracted the dreaded virus.
Ashwin who features for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL had to midway leave the tournament to take care of his family who had tested covid positive earlier.
The Vivo IPL 2021 was abruptly suspended by the BCCI as multiple covid cases started to rise in the bio-bubbles.
?Almost everyone from my place had got affected due to Covid. In fact, few of my cousins also got admitted and were serious and they somehow recovered,? said Ashwin on his Youtube channel.
?I couldn?t sleep for almost 8-9 days. Since I couldn?t sleep, it was really stressful for me. I was playing matches without getting any sleep. And since I found it really taxing, I had to quit IPL and go home midway.

The 34-years old spinner said that he was doubtful when he left the IPL midway if he would be able to play cricket further.
?In fact, when I left, around that time, I had thoughts on whether I will be able to play cricket thereafter. But still, I did what was required at that point of time.?
At the time when he announced his leave from the IPL 2021, Ashwin also stated that he will come back to play the league once the situation in his family comes into control however this did not happen as the IPL was eventually suspended on May 4.
?I thought there won?t be any cricket for some time. Even the IPL got postponed. In between, when people in my house started recovering, I thought of coming back into the IPL and that?s when IPL was called off,? he added.
Currently, the senior spinner is undergoing his two weeks mandatory quarantine in Mumbai before heading out to the UK for a marathon tour of three long months. India is scheduled to play six test matches in the England tour, one with New Zealand as the final of the ICC World Test Championship while the other five against England.
