ICC Men's World Cup 2023 Points Table: Pat Cummins-led Australia registered back-to-back wins in the ongoing ICC Men's World Cup 2023 after going down in the first two matches. To bring up their second victory, Australia defeated Pakistan by 62 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on October 20. With the win, Australia stormed into the top four of the ICC Men's World Cup 2023 Points Table, while Pakistan has slipped down in the standings. This article will lead you through the World Cup 2023 Standing and ICC Men's World Cup 2023 Points Table Updated after the Australia vs Pakistan fixture.
Australia rode on the back of two centuries from openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh to put up a demanding total of 367 runs. Warner and Marsh stitched a record-breaking opening partnership at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, punishing the Pakistani bowlers for everything loose they bowl.
The two batters stitched a whopping 259-run opening partnership before the first breakthrough. Mitch Marsh was the first man to be dismissed at a score of 121 runs. Warner, who had also completed his century, was still in the middle and scored runs for fun. The southpaw scored 163 runs and put Australia on a path to a massive total.
However, Australia couldn't get any more fruitful partnerships barring David Warner and Mitchell Marsh. Marcus Stoinis was the only batter who crossed 20 runs, besides the two centuries, and the remaining players couldn't even go past the 15-run mark. In fact, most of the batters were removed cheaply in a single-digit score.
Despite such a rampaging start to the innings, Australia could only muster 367 runs total in 50 overs in the loss of nine wickets.
Just like Australia, Pakistan also received a strong platform to launch their innings. The openers added 134 runs for the opening partnership and the stage was all set for a big chase. But both the openers were soon dismissed by Marcus Stoinis in his two successive overs which derailed Pakistan's innings.
Skipper Babar Azam was expected to return to his form, but it was just not meant to be. The Pakistani skipper was dismissed cheaply at a score of 18 runs.
Wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan tried to put up some show in Chinnaswamy, but he too perished after playing a knock of 46 runs in 40 balls. There were small contributions from other players in the chase as well, however, those were too few to threaten the Australian total of 367 runs.
Australian bowlers bowled out Pakistan at a score of 305 runs in 54.3 overs and won the contest by 62 runs. The win put Australia in a strong position to once again resurrect in the ICC Men's World Cup 2023.
