Australia and South Africa are the only two teams in the tournament to collect 6 points in the T20 World Cup Points Table 2024 in the group stage. This post reads the latest updated ICC T20 World Cup Points Table after AUS vs NAM and SL vs NEP.
After South Africa, Australia cemented their spot in the Super 8 stage after an easy win in the 24th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Australia are the defending champion and are one of the favorites since the start of the 2024 ICC event, and just after three matches of the tournament, they have shown why they are!
AUS vs NAM Match Summary
Australia won the toss first and asked Namibia to bat first. Namibia's innings was a dismal affair, mired in despair as wickets fell relentlessly and runs were a scarce, fleeting hope. Josh Hazelwood and Pat Cummins broke the backbone of the Namibian batting lineup by clinching 3 wickets for just 19 runs at the top.
Nathan Ellis struck early, trapping JJ Smit LBW with a swift, cutting delivery that set the tone for the carnage. Adam Zampa then entered the fray, mercilessly slicing through Namibia's middle order, claiming four victims and sealing their tragic downfall.
Regular wickets and no such partnership resulted in Namibia ending their innings at just 77 runs. Australia were relentless with the ball and they all already knew, where this game was heading.
David Warner electrified the chase from the get-go, smashing four boundaries in just eight balls, setting the stage for Australia's aggressive pursuit. The onslaught continued as Travis Head unleashed his fury, blasting two fours and a six off Ben Shikongo in the third over.
Despite Erasmus' tight fourth over, conceding only six runs, Australia's determination to finish the game within the PowerPlay was unwavering. Head responded with a dazzling hat-trick of fours off Trumpelmann, and then captain Marsh sealed the emphatic victory with a thrilling sequence of a four, a six, and another four, wrapping up the match with a staggering 86 balls to spare.
SL vs NEP Match Details
The Sri Lanka vs Nepal match was abandoned following the rain interruption. Both teams get a point each from this match. This washout will hurt Sri Lanka the most as their Super Eight qualification chances were hanging by a thread.
Sri Lanka had a T20 World Cup that they would want to erase off the history. They have not won a single match after the three matches and they just have left with one. They are unofficially eliminated from the race of Super 8. Nepal have two games left and they have some chance of making it to the Super 8.
