ICC U19 World Cup: The International Cricket Council (ICC) runs a Tournament for the under-19 division named as ICC U19 World Cup. Formerly known as the Youth Cricket World Cup was first organized in 1988 in Australia and till now we have seen 15 editions of the tournament. This post reads the ICC U19 World Cup Winners List from 1988 To 2024.

The ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2024 is the 15th edition of the tournament. The 50-overs format included sixteen teams, giving rising stars and talented players a significant platform to display their skills on a worldwide scale. There were 41 games in the competition, with the top 12 teams moving on to the Super Six round after the pool rounds. The top four semi-finalist teams were determined by the three games each of these twelve teams. Australia U19 and India U19 were the two finalists that made it through every round unscathed and Australia won the title for the 4th time.

U19 World Cup 1988- Australia
Held in 1988 as a part of the Australian Bicentennial festivities, the first competition was named the McDonald's Bicentennial Youth World Cup. It happened in Victoria and South Australia. The first edition of the tournament only had seven teams on board. In a round-robin format, teams from the seven Test-playing countries and an ICC Associates XI contested. Defying Pakistan by 5 wickets in the championship match, Australia emerged victorious.
Many well-known names like Nasser Hussain, Indian spinner Venkatapathy Raju, New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns, Pakistanis Mushtaq Ahmed and Inzamam-ul-Haq, Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya, and West Indians Brian Lara, and Ridley Jacobs played in the tournament.
U19 World Cup 1998- England
There was a 10-year gap for the second edition of the tournament. The surprising champions of the second Under-19 World Cup held in South Africa were England. The tournament was revived as a biennial event in South Africa in 1998. There were teams from Bangladesh, Kenya, Scotland, Ireland, Denmark, Namibia, and Papua New Guinea in addition to the nine Test-playing countries.
England's Graeme Swann, India's Mohammad Kaif, Virender Sehwag, Laxmi Shukla, and Harbhajan Singh, Pakistan's Abdul Razzaq and Shoaib Malik, West Indian Chris Gayle, and Samuels were the names that became the well-known cricketers in the future.
U19 World Cup 2000- India
The 1998 format was repeated in the 2000 event, which took place in Sri Lanka. The nine Test-playing nations along with a composite team from the Americas development area, Bangladesh, Kenya, Ireland, Namibia, Holland, and Nepal were among the participating nations. In the final, India and Sri Lanka faced off, with India winning by a difference of six wickets.
Yuvraj Singh of India won the title of Man of the Series. Under Mohammed Kaif's leadership, India won the championship for the first time. Micheal Clark, Mitchell Johnson, Shane Watson, Ian Bell, Mohammed Sami, and Jonathan Trott were the tournament's star performers.
U19 World Cup 2002- Australia
The fourth Under-19 World Cup, held in New Zealand, reinforced Australia's domination of the competition, which began with their opening match. The ten Test-playing countries as well as Canada, Kenya, Namibia, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and Scotland were among the participating nations. In the tournament final, Australia defeated South Africa by seven wickets.
Cameron White, George Bailey, Parthiv Patel, Irfan Pathan, Stuart Binny, Suresh Raina, Ross Taylor, Salman Butt, Umar Gul, Dwayne Bravo and Ravi Rampaul were the future stars of the tournament.
U19 World Cup 2004- Pakistan
The competition took place in Bangladesh in 2004. The 54 matches that took place in the event were seen by almost 350,000 spectators. Pakistan and the West Indies, the two best teams, played a tight final to round up the tournament. Pakistan defeated the West Indies by 25 runs, and the 30,000 spectators cheered the winning Pakistanis.
India lost to Pakistan in the semifinals. Ambati Rayudu was India's captain for the tournament but was banned by the referee for the Semifinal match for slow over-rate. Shikhar Dhawan was the Man of the Series and Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik, Suresh Raina, R. P. Singh, V. R. V. Singh, Robin Uthappa, Tim Paine, Wahab Riaz, Angelo Mathews were the superstars of the edition.
U19 World Cup 2006- Pakistan
It was always going to be difficult for this competition, held in Sri Lanka, to match the tremendous reception that the last event in Bangladesh received. In an incredible final match versus India at the Premadasa Stadium, Pakistan won the championship for the second time in a row.
Moises Henriques, Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Piyush Chawla, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishant Sharma, Martin Guptill, Tim Southee, Sarfraz Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Dean Elgar, Sunil Narine, and Kieron Pollard, all these star players played in that edition of U19 World Cup.
U19 World Cup 2008- India
Malaysia hosted the 2008 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. the year that the world witnessed Virat Kohli, the future star, smashing bowlers for the first time in 22 yards. Wayne Parnell, the captain of South Africa, was instrumental in securing their spot in the final match. However, they had suffered a loss to India during the group stages, and well, fate struck again. After being bowled out for 159, India, captained by Virat Kohli, prevailed by 12 runs under the D/L system and became the winner for the second time.
Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Chris Woakes, Kane Williamson, and Shan Masood were the find of the tournament.
U19 World Cup 2010- Australia
The 2010 Under-19 Cricket World Cup was held in New Zealand in January 2010. The tournament was hosted in New Zealand. The final between Australia and Pakistan was a rematch of the first tournament, and Australia won by 25 runs in a game where fortunes ebbed and flowed throughout.
The big names of the edition were Mitchell Marsh, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa, Jos Buttler, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Tom Latham, Babar Azam, Jason Holder, and KL Rahul.
U19 World Cup 2012- India
After Australia, India became the first nation to win the U19 World Cup thrice. Australia's Tony Ireland Stadium hosted the 2012 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. In addition to the ten test-playing countries, this competition was attended by Afghanistan, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, Scotland, and Namibia. India defeated Australia in the championship match.
Ben Foakes, Travis head, Ish Sodhi, Indian Skipper Unmukt Chand, and Litton Das are the known cricketers of this edition.
U19 World Cup 2014- South Africa
Dubai hosted the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2014. The only non-full member to advance to the Quarterfinals was Afghanistan. India struggled against England in the Quarterfinals and ultimately lost in the final over. In the previous four tournaments, this was England's first semi-final appearance.
South Africa defeated Pakistan in a lopsided final to win the U-19 World Cup for the first time. In the championship game, Corbin Bosch?the son of the late South African batsman Tertius Bosch?was named Man of the Match, while Aiden Markram was named Man of the Series. Throughout the whole tournament, South Africa did not lose a single match.
U19 World Cup 2016- West Indies
Bangladesh hosted the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. It was the Under-19 World Cup's eleventh edition and its second time being hosted in Bangladesh. Australia declared on January 5, 2016, that they were withdrawing from the competition due to security concerns. In the final match, the West Indies won their maiden title by defeating India by five wickets. Player of the tournament went to Mehedi Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh.
U19 World Cup 2018- India
India won the U19 title for a record 4th time in the 2018 edition of the U19 World Cup. New Zealand hosted the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. On February 3, 2018, Australia and India fought in the finals at Mount Maunganui. It was the Under-19 World Cup's twelfth edition. Under Prithvi Shaw's leadership, Manjot Kalra scored a match-winning 101* to help India upset Australia by 8 wickets.
Finn Allen, Rachin Ravindra, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Harry Brook, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Shaheen Afridi are a few famous names today from the tournament.
U19 World Cup 2020- Bangladesh
South Africa hosted the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. The second Under-19 World Cup was to be hosted in South Africa, this one was the thirteenth edition. Bangladesh won the championship for the first time, defeating India by three wickets in the Duckworth Lewis Method final match at Potchefstroom, South Africa.
Players like Todd Murphy, Shoriful Islam, Dhruv Jurel, Priyam Garg, Ravi Bishnoi, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Verma, and Mohammed Wasim Jr are well-known today.
U19 World Cup 2022- India
In the U19 Cricket Championship in 2023, India reclaimed the championship. West Indies hosted the 2022 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. The event took place at North Sound, Antigua, where India, led by Yash Dhull, defeated England by 4 wickets to win the championship match. India has won the most ICC Under-19 World Cups of any nation with five victories.
U19 World Cup 2024- Australia
The fifteenth edition of the ICC U19 World Cup is hosted in South Africa. The home team lost the semifinal to India. India and Australia played in the final of the U19 World Cup 2024 where Australia won the game and became the World Champions for the 4th time.
