ICC World Cup Qualifiers Points Table: Ireland has been knocked out of the ICC World Cup 2023 race as Sri Lanka thrashes them by 133 runs in match number 15 of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers. The Lankan Lions outshined Irish players in all three departments and handed disappointment to the latter side, who will not be a part of the ODI World Cup 2023.
Sri Lanka, riding on a domineering batting performance supplemented by scrutinising bowling, conquered the Ireland challenge by 133 runs and comfortably sailed through to the ICC World Cup 2023 Super Sixes. On the other side, with the defeat, Ireland has been knocked out of the World Cup 2023 race.
Dimuth Karunaratne (103) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (82) top scored for Sri Lanka as they posted 325 runs total against Ireland at the Queens Sports Club,?Bulawayo. For Ireland, Mark Adir (4), and Bary McCarthy (3) remained the pick of the bowlers as they helped their side wrap Sri Lanka's innings at 325 runs.
In pursuit of 325 runs, none of the Ireland batters could hold their ground against the disciplined bowling lines of Sri Lankan bowlers. Harry Tector (33) and Curtis Campher (39) showed a bit of resistance and were the last hope for Ireland. However, they too couldn't stay longer in the middle.
Wanindu Hasaranga scalped his third straight five-wicket haul in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers. The spinner now jointly holds a unique record along with Waqar Younis for most consecutive five-fors in the ODIs.
Talking about the ICC World Cup Qualifiers Points Table, Sri Lanka stays atop their group with three wins out of three matches. Meanwhile, Ireland is eliminated from the race with three consecutive defeats. Scotland and Oman are the other two sides, who have qualified for ICC World Cup Qualifier Super Six along with Sri Lanka from Group B.
From Group A, Zimbabwe, Netherlands and West Indies have made their cut to the super six stage while Nepal and the United States have faced elimination.
