ICC WTC Final: Ajinkya Rahane Injury Update, says, "Painful but manageable": Team India's test mainstay, Ajinkya Rahane once again proved his mettle in the crucial game with his sublime 89-run innings at the Oval in London against India. Rahane rescued team India from a dire situation and helped his side avoid follow-on on Day three of the ongoing ICC WTC Final against Australia.
During his 89-run innings in 129 deliveries, Rahane, unfortunately, copped multiple blows, one of which has led to an injury scare. Ajinkya Rahane was struck on his finger off Pat Cummins' nasty delivery on day two of the WTC Final. He was immediately attended by the team doctor, who used his magic spray.
On day three as well, Rahane suffered multiple hits while he was batting. In one of the deliveries from Cameron Green, Rahane took a blow on his helmet, which fortunately didn't do much damage to the batter.
While the hit on his helmet wasn't that scary for the Indians, his finger did cause a bit of panic as he was seen in pain and almost immediately required medical attention.
However, the lion-hearted Ajinkya Rahane confirms, after the stumps on day three, that the blow on his finger won't hamper his batting.
"Painful but quite manageable (blow to his finger). Don't think it'll affect batting," said Ajinkya Rahane when enquired about his finger injury by the broadcasters.
The 35-year-old batter stitched a 109-run partnership with Shardul Thakur for the seventh wicket. The two took India past the follow-on score and reignited India's hopes for a comeback.
"Happy with the way I batted. Had a good today. We were looking to get 320-330 but overall we had a good day," Rahane told.
On day three of the ICC WTC Final, team India scored 296 runs while Australia still had the lead of 173 runs. The Aussie batters added another 123 runs in the loss of four wickets in their second innings until the umpires removed the bails and call it a day.
At the stumps on the third day, Australia's score read 123 runs with an overall lead of 296 runs with Marnus Labuschagne (41*) and Cameron Green (7*) in the middle.
