JUMP TO:
Pakistan were reduced to 47/4 after winning the toss and electing to bat, courtesy of the trio of Starc, Hazlewood, and Cummins. Pakistan were somewhat restored by a counterattacking 88 from Rizwan and a fifty from Salman. However, Cummins cut through the lower order, and Jamal's outstanding performance was crucial. To lead his team beyond 300, he struck a scorching 82 off 97 balls and had an 84-run partnership with a number 11 Hamza.
Australia responded by getting off to a calm start. Even after Ayub dropped him early on, Warner failed to make a mark. The hosts were positioned comfortably at 289/5 with handy contributions from Khawaja, Smith, and Labuschagne, as well as fifties from Marsh and Labuschagne. However, they were trailing by 14 runs after collapsing and losing 5 wickets for 10 runs. Once again, Jamal grabbed a 6-fer to cause mayhem.
Pakistan were wobbling at 1 for 2 down, but a 56-run stand between Ayub and Babar provided them some solidity. However, there was a twist once again. For seven runs, they lost five wickets. Hazlewood produced a triple wicket-maiden to smash through the middle order. Rizwan and Salman put up a 42-run stand before Lyon dismissed the former. As a result, Pakistan was bowled out for 115 runs. Australia had a mere 130 to go after.
Despite Khawaja being caught off guard, Warner and Labuschagne made sure to shut out the opposition. Both reached their respective half-century. Although Pakistan managed to remove Warner from the game during his final innings, it was too late to offer and Australia was able to win with eight wickets remaining.
