WTC Points Table Updated after England vs Australia 1st Test: 'Cummins masterclass outclassed Bazball,' this statement is the headline of the Day. It was a 'one of a kind' match where Australia shuts bazball by a very narrow margin of 2 wickets. And hence the World Test Champions have started their WTC 2025 with a win and they are on the top in WTC Points Table 2023-25.
Fans and experts lobby criticized Stokes and the think tank for their multiple decisions, including the early declaration on Day 1. Nevertheless, England were on top in each of the first four and a half days. They lost the game in the final session of DAY 5 due to Cummins' excellence and character.
In the previous World Test Championship cycle, Australia came out on top. They dominated at home and competed brilliantly on their journey to take the top spot in the rankings. The Australians have already won an away game in this cycle, and they now have the chance to take a commanding lead.
Australia defeated England by 2 wickets but soon ICC imposed heavy penalties on both teams for slow over-rate. In addition to deducting two points from each team's World Test Championship grade, the ICC penalized players from both teams 40% of their match fees.
England are yet to open their account in the WTC Points table of the new cycle. They did not earn any points from the two-wicket loss against Australia, they got negative 2 instead. Their points percentage stands at -16.67%. The Ben Stokes-led outfit will be keen to bounce back in the second match of the series, starting next Thursday at Lord's. This penalty pushed England behind all eight of their rivals in the 2023-25 World Test Championship cycle.
The sanctions see Australia lose two World Test Championship points and more importantly the percentage points. Australia is still on the top of the WTC points table with 10 points and 83.33 PCT points.
