ICC World Test Championship 2023-25: England defeated Australia by 49 runs in the last match of the five-match Test series of The Ashes 2023 played between England and Australia. In the final match of The Ashes 2023, Australian captain Pat Cummins won the toss and invited England to bat first. Batting first, the England team could score only 283 runs, while the Australian team scored 295 runs in the first innings and took a lead of 12 runs. In the second innings, England made a comeback scoring 395 runs. Chasing the target, the Australian team was all out for 334 runs in the second innings.
Chris Woakes bowled brilliantly for England in the second innings. He took four important wickets for 50 runs in a total of 19 overs. Woakes dismissed both Australian opener David Warner and Usman Khawaja. There was a 140-run partnership between both the batsmen. Apart from this, he took the wicket of Steve Smith who was batting on 54 runs. The last wicket of the same Australian innings was taken by Stuart Broad who is playing his last match. Broad bowled a total of 20.4 overs in which he took two wickets. As the end of Ashes 2023, 37 year old England fast bowler Stuart Broad also ends his cricket career. The entire cricket world is shocked and saddened by his sudden retirement decision.
The Ashes 2023 was held in England. The Australian team was leading 2-0 in the series after winning the first two Test matches. It seemed to all cricket experts and fans that this year the Kangaroo team would beat England 5?0, but then the England team returned and won the third Test match by three wickets. While the fourth Test match played at Manchester's Old Trafford Stadium was a draw due to rain. England had almost won this match too. In the same fifth and last Test match, England defeated Australia by 49 runs to end the series at 2-2.
